Tech Thread

This is now at least the 4th or 5th wonder technology that he's claimed that the future of Tesla depends on and to date, exactly zero of those technologies have been developed or are particularly close to be being developed.

while the AI lies and fails are funny and all, the bigger issue is that all these errors are just going to compound as they become part of the AI training data.

everyone is so sure AI will get better at this when it will likely just get worse.

I think AI will get better but not with the current LLM. It needs to be better than a patchwork plagiarist

I think these current models are as good as they’re going to get… in fact, as a daily user, I’m noticing it getting worse. It often withholds info or makes lazy assumptions.

Yesterday, I was using it to assess the value of some silver coins and it thought I was delusional when I quoted silver as >$60 USD/ ounce.

It was like “silver’s recent high was $22”

I had to ask it several times to double check the price — it kept assuring me it wasn’t necessary until it finally relented.

The arts and crafts movement was in response to industrialization and soulless machinery. I wonder if there will be some sort of related shift in fashion from AI digital slop.

I mean i think it will definitely get better at many things.

But as a repository and retriever of basic knowledge, I dunno, i'm getting pretty scared it's getting worse, and getting worse specifically due to it's own instrinsic nature i.e. not something that's fixable.

Like how can you trust AI when it can't even get a simple number like yours right? and then know that every other AI is treating that data as a legit data point and training itself on it. How can this ever NOT get worse?

where is the benefit here when there's plenty of sites you can visit and get the actual price of silver? asking AI and then having to quadruple check it before just ignoring it seems like we're already at the point of insanity.

Aside from the inaccuracy, it’s also becoming consistently annoying. Maybe it’s just a ChatGPT thing (so I’ll be using Claude the next few days)

I’ll ask something like name all the shops that buy silver in and around the Financial District in Toronto and it’ll come back with two suggestions and then add “if you want, I can list more places”

I’m like if I only wanted two suggestions, I would have not typed out the word “all”

This is happening regardless of topic
