Isles give up a 1st to keep Vegas from plucking a forward.

It's possible. All the reports leading up to the draft seemed to indicate Vegas & the Wild hadn't been able to work out a deal.
And the Wild were painted into a corner with all the defensemen they wanted to protect.

If I'm Vegas weight getting as much as possible from the wild to not take dumba and then take staal and flip him with some salary retention for another big return.

Who really cares much about Staal?
Dumba is a huge piece for them for the next decade if they take him. I don't know what they could reasonably offer to have Vegas lay off. It'll be painful one way or the other for them.

Even so, though, LOF's point remains---it's an either/or proposition for Vegas. If they take Staal for the purpose of dealing him to Toronto, then they've lost their chance to get Dumba. That means that the return you offer for them has to be more valuable than Dumba would be to Vegas, and more valuable than the return any other team would be offering for either Dumba or Staal.
So you can't really assume that Staal would be in any way cheap to acquire.

Vegas should just keep Dumba.
I'm not a fan of Bergevin at all... but the Drouin trade was definitely addressing a need. We definitely needed more fire power.

That's what I'd do if I were McPhee.
The kid's the same age as Rielly (22), he's right-handed, and he's coming off an 11-goal, 34-point season.
He's one of the few exposed players available in this draft that Vegas could potentially build with long-term.
I agree. I think if I'm Vegas I prefer Dumba over a 1st.
Although... if they can get a 1st plus Staal... that's tempting. Cause they can easily flip Staal.

Making a deal to get him means losing out on Dumba.
Which they can't do.
So if we wanted them to leave Dumba and take Staal, what's the price? Zaitsev? More? It has to make up for their losing out on Dumba.
Unless they get paid by Vegas to leave Dumba alone... then flip Staal. They could get paid off twice.
