The faces behind the words.....

I don't go to my barber's for the haircut, I go for the experience........it's a veritable parlour/man cave, with a classic pinball machine and dartboard to kill time while you wait your turn, classic 50's/60's Playboys for your reading pleasure, flat screen tv's in case there's a soccer game on.....and they serve me my drink of choice while I get the cut.

Haircuts used to be something I'd dread, now it's something I look forward to.
I'd pay 30 bucks for something like that. I went to a place called Sports Clips in Pitt, it had the whole flatscreen thing. It was cool.

I've been cutting my own hair since I was 16... and it isn't a shave either. I got a 4 on top and a two on the sides. Perfect taper as well.. I have even mastered the neck trim with two mirrors. I can't justify paying more than 20 bucks for that kind of haircut. Once when I was growing it out, I went to my wifes salon... sweet crap I paid 50 bucks for a bad trim. Never again

That's exactly what I do 80% of the time. I now get my wife to do my neck though.

A head massage? We're talking haircuts, not rub and tugs. And shampoo is included in the $20 cut. There's no way it should cost $60 for a guy to get a hair cut. Go to Magic Cuts.. Its like 12 bucks.

Let's assume good haircut. I'd rather not get a haircut from someone who trained on yaks back in the old country.

Actually a legitimately good haircut, should run someone $45-60......places like Magic Cuts, etc that do it for $20 do the most basic of basic haircuts (which admittedly, is fine for the majority of people)

If I wasn't going the lazy route of getting it buzzed, I'd be forking that much out per cut......it's one of those few things in life that is often well worth the price you pay.

You get your hair cut in Heaven? For the love of God where is this amazing place?

It's in Yaletown, and called Dominion Barbers, my buddy Martin runs it...

Dominion Barbers combines a lounge ambience with parlour feel. Located at 214 Abbott in Gastown, it is nicely tucked in beside The Lamplighter and The Clough Club. A third generation barber, Montreal-native Martin Rivard is the proprietor who has organized a team of three barbers at the shop.

Dominion Barbers is named after the historic building within which it resides. It is your neighbor's barber, a proprietor of a cut throat parlour and your favourite man cave. It's a timeless classic, with beautifully maintained Belmont barber chairs, and an all wood bar under a mirror that runs the length of the room. With magazines, a flat screen television, a pinball machine and a dartboard, this is definitely a place where you will come in for a cut, but you will definitely stay to hang out.

That's Martin's dog.....she's the mascot of the place, and has her bed basically in the front window of the shop...click on the link I posted there, and check out the photo gallery, to see some pictures of her.

It's definitely one of my favourite places on earth.........as is his bar next door, that is my personal favorite cocktail lounge in Vancouver, the Clough Club.

Where they serve my official drink....

Having said that, everyone needs to decide for themselves whether they want to conform to maximize their potential, or go as far as they can being 100% themselves.

For example I'm sure I could get even further if I shaved my beard and grew my hair out a bit.....but for me shaved head and beard are what I want regardless of corporate or gf wants. That extra five minutes this look affords me, is worth more than any dollar amount.

Same here.

I was so ****ing vain back when I had the long hair I did the House of Lords when it was cool. Only once though, couldn't handle the *******-ness of the place. I remember being a pain in the ass with whoever was cutting it.
Oh well, I was an ass...what can I say?

It's not about how much you pay. It's about the skill of the person cutting your hair. The best guy I've ever had cut my hair does it for $18. Used to be less.

It's damn near impossible to get a decent haircut anywhere these days. I often end up cutting mine myself as well, and I do a better job than 90% of the "professionals" out there.

I guess my point was that IMO guys should have short enough hair that you shouldn't need to pay more than $20.

When I was in highschool and before I cut my own hair, i used to get on the bus, RT, then subway to Donlands station..about 20 steps from the station was this old italian barber shop where they would do amazing fades (or tapers as we used to call it) then when done cutting your hair, they would put warm shaving cream and neat up the back and sideburns with the straight razor. Even at 15 I knew that was cool as shit to get done... Well worth the 40 minute transit ride from East Scarborough.

I work in trucking, so the standards are a bit more lax than a money management firm to be sure, i.e I can get away with a beard and long hair, but the company is very old school so if I ever worked at the corporate office I'd have to clean myself up.
