The Fucking Offseason Thread - Why bother waiting?

You and Zeke are both on team Bonino

I was originally on team Stastny and wouldn't shed a single tear if we ended up there instead but Bonino is younger, 2 time cup winner (Leaderbeans!!) good nerdies in hard usage and surprising offensive production despite starting almost every shift on his side of the red line.

So you have come around to team Zeke?

I'd pay from D. Lilly and if needed some other prospect not named Robertson or Amirov.

Arizona says no, and quickly.

We (some of us) love Lilly, but in the scouting community he's largely not considered to be on par with Ras, Amirov or Robertson.

Zona is going to want one of those 3 and then more good stuff. Think of all of the good stuff that all of the pro Garland people have been saying all week, that's exactly what Arizona's front office thinks about him. He's very good, 25 yrs old, 2 years of control. They're not taking a 22 yr old RHD that has played 13 games in the league to this point and stuff for him.

Fuck, they're going to want one of those 3...and Lilly.

Sure, why not. In fairness, I mentioned Bonino along with Stastny when I originally touched on this. I just happened to prefer Stastny at the time. My preference between the two could easily flip back depending on contract ask.

Danault in the mix too?

Cost dependent, sure.

I'm pro Danault, dude is real gud. Super Elite 3rd line centre. If we knew we could pull cheap wing talent out of this UFA pool (Tatar, Gusev, etc) and Danault was looking at a reasonable ask (~4.5), I'd be entirely down with that.

Danault's current contract feels like the fair number and term for him honestly, taking into account his offensive limitations.

Ehhh. Most recent showcase wasn't convincing.

The Habs games I saw, even I got frustrated with how he provided nothing offensively. And I still don't see what he's doing on the ice to nullify guys like Matthews. So I'm just not a believer.

You could sign 2/3 of that nerdies line. Just replace Gallagher

He's as dependable as you think the Harvey's grilled chicken is

I would seriously consider it. I might be wrong as it's not like I'm connected to the people involved in the market in any way, but Tatar really feels like a guy who is going to end up on some 2-3x3.5 deal or some shit and then put up 55 points every year with great 2 way play. Similar to how Toffoli fell through the cracks last year.

Though, I doubt we would see them reunited much in Toronto even if it happened. Danault would be for the 3C lockdown role if the Nerd brought him in. Tatar would be a complimentary guy for one of the top 2 lines.

I'd need to take a deeper dive because it could be bad luck but Tatar's career playoff stats are hilarious

Elite defensive C's get paid. Look at Jordan Staal.

I also think that you're overstating his offensive limitations. He's been a 45-55 point centre for the last 5 years. When Bozak hit the market and got signed 5m X 3 by St Louis, that's more or less identical to what his offensive production had been over the previous 5 years in Toronto. So Danault is Bozak good offensively, while being a top 5 defensive centre in the league. If you can get that for lower AAV than fucking Bozak signed for, you do it.
