The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

pretty sure they split them 10 games ago, in the first game against the Panthers:

Tavares: 10gms, 6gls/13pts, 17:45
Nylander: 10gms, 7gls/13pts, 17:33
 
Looking more and more that one of Dubas’s most important off-season tasks will be to either move Muzzin’s contract, or convince Muzz to spend a couple of years on scenic Robidas Island.

That is a huge waste of money which could lock up Engvall/Mikky and open up a spot for Sandin. They need to trade him. It's not even up for debate anymore. He will be untradeable or will return us squat if they wait past the offseason.

There's no need for island talk yet, but if they wait too long, there will be.

Dude should get us at least a 1st in the offseason. It would be criminal not to capitalize.
 
Presty, I like how you keep laughing, but honestly, if you're not seeing how ineffective he is while watching the games, I don't know what to tell you. Unless he has all the time in the world to make a play, he fucks up. They catch up to him even when he has plenty of time and obstruct the play or take the puck away. John Carlson blew past him even though he started out 20 feet in front of him and there was no one in between. This is not a good player anymore.

Is, or was? You know that I believe in the value of expected goals...but we have to look at actual goals as well. Hes way underwater in GF% and lowest among regulars in xGF. Yes, I know, the heavies....but its not like he has crushed them this year like he's done in years past. He's kept his head above water in expected goals and gotten wrecked in goals.

Since his return he has a 63.9xgf% and a 63.5gf%,

I'm laughing at the hyperbole. He took a step back this year (TBD whether it's a slump or a legitimate decline) but he's still a very good NHL defenceman. Both things can be true.

So, small samples > big samples now?

The ability to stay healthy and do it consistently is what made him very good.

I hope he stays healthy and performs well for us obviously, but the decline sure looks like it's on its way.

I guess playing the most difficult minutes on one of the best teams in hockey means nothing. I'm concerned about his durability but not really his performance. Even if he truly has taken a step back permanently he goes from being an excellent top pair d to a second pair guy. That's fine on this roster. He has been great since his return so I'm hoping it was just a rocky start to the year for him. It's a little funny how we all fixate on his one error last night but not Gio's. Spoiler: they're both awesome d.

And if this is just a slump and he gets back to last year's performance, I still have no issues with deciding to move on from him, for what it's worth. The decision is more about asset management though and the risk-reward ratio isn't as ideal the more he ages. Leafs signed the contract knowing he'd be possibly/likely moved in the last or second last year.
