The Good The Bad & The Ugly - Game 5 - Bruins vs Habs

The fourth line has been pretty brutal besides Malhotra on faceoffs – 58% again last night!

Time to get Bournival back in the lineup.

I really liked Eller's line down low against Bruins......Bruins dmen could not move Bourque from in front of Rask.....and they even got a goal from Sekac

You need big bodies like that on your bottom lines for the playoffs....they tire-down the opposing dmen....makes your top 2 lines more effective

Prust has slowed down so much from his first year here...his mobility is just brutal.

Even if his numbers aren't there I think Bourque has been playing pretty well so far this year...seems involved

I agree that he's not as good as he could be, I just don't think he's been as bad as some people like to say he's been. He's let in bad goals so far, but so has every elite goalie so far. I don't see the reason to worry.

If he's still a little off two months from now, then yeah, I'll start worrying.

I wonder if people have seen the great Lundqvist play so far this season... oooof, ugly.

As someone posted yesterday, top goalies around the league have been brutal to start this season: add Bernier, Schneider etc. except Rinne & Bishop

That's because he's already scaled 1000 de la Gauchetière and is swatting at planes and helicopters that buzz too close.

Game was never in doubt. :)

I have great concern over our D and mild concern over Price. With Price I will wait a little longer before calling it great concern. He's started slow in the past and bounced back. Part of his current issue though is the atrocious defense being played in front of him. Forwards are cheating a little too much, the tight team D that the Habs played in the playoffs last year is gone. As for the D corps itself, the only player that I see playing to his ability is Markov.

Subban - C grade is the best I can give him. Sometimes he tries too much then tries too little. He seems to have not found his stride yet.
Weaver - pedestrian at best. Really needs to pick it up.
Tinordi - Seeing some improvement but wow, this kid needs another 40 games to stabilize.
Gilbert - He's playing to his ability, unfortunately we need more.
Emelin - I liked what I saw from him by way of getting under Lubitch's skin but he was also lost out there at times.

MB needs to monitor teams that have started poorly that were not expected to. He needs to poach a top 4 D to stabilize our corps. I'd like to see him get a top RH guy to play with Markov and move Gilbert to the third pair. Barring that, get a stud LH to play with Subban and move Emelin back with Markov even though that would put Emelin on his off side again.

The offense is there (partly because they are playing very loose with the defense), the D really needs to step up more as does Carey. Really good teams will eat the Habs for breakfast if they play that loose on D.

I'd give our D a little bit more time, those are all new pairings so the cohesion is not really there right now and most of our veterans seem rusty. Subban getting back to his normal form should stabilize the first unit, Gilbert has been ok but I expect him to get better as he gets more comfortable with his new team, and Weaver, if he can get back to his level of play from last year, should help the third pairing.

Unless we ship out Weaver, I don't really want another vet on D as I like Tinordi and Beaulieu getting some ice time, and those two have certainly not been the problem so far.

Finally, Price stepping it up should help cover some of the mistakes and would bring back a bit more confidence to this crew.

Again, the biggest issue I'm seeing so far is cohesion and communication, the pairs don't seem in sync. I'm expecting this to improve.

Gilbert was bought out by the Wild and wasn't re-signed by Florida. 'Nuff said about him. Weaver appears to be a very, very, very poor man's Josh Gorges. I hope I'm proven wrong as to both . . . but I'm not "optimist," as MT would say.

Is that Le Coq's post or was he just quoting a tweet from Brian Wilde's feed? I read that exact quote on twitter last night but who knows? Maybe Le Coq was the one who tweeted it.
