The New Division

A guy who showed that kind of character, burst, shot, and smarts in a playoff series isn't just a "fringe prospect". I'm not annointing him the next Marty st.louis, but he's definitely an intriguing prospect. Pooh-pooh him all you want. When a guy shows up that big on that big a stage, he's a prospect.

There have been a tonne of guys throughout the years who have come out of know where and had good playoff performances but then did nothing. Meanwhile your not even talking about a guy who did anything spectacular, 6 pts in 10gms, big deal. I doubt he'll even see a game in the NHL this year.

Lonny Bohonos says hi.

He's a fringe prospect because his skill set probably isn't good enough to make him a clear top 6 forward and his lack of size makes him a bad fit for the bottom 6.

He has the defensive awareness, PK ability, and ability to win draws that would allow him to play a defensive role on a third or fourth line if he had to. And his speed and shot make him a guy who could develop into a top 6.

he's a midget with questionable offensive upside.

pretty solid prospect. on the leafs' chart he'd fall somewhere along the spectrum with guys like leivo, mckegg, brown and d'amigo.

Feel free to look into all the successful 3rd & 4th line players who have effective careers and are under 5'10 175 pounds. I don't think you grasp just how small this kid is and how big of a detriment that is in a league where the average player is 4 inches taller and 35 pounds heavier than he is.

This is where he needs to be, he simply won't stick around long as a bottom 6 guy.

and not being talented enough to be a legitimate top 6 NHL forward.

That's not the tag he had. He was "lazy" and "bad defensively" and allegedly drank like a mini me version of Derek Sanderson.

Pageau may be short, but he is pretty stocky. He will have a good NHL career.

When I call him Giroux 2.0 obviously I am just kidding for the most part, but the guy can play. He has talent. He's learned defense well enough for his coaches to trust him, and maybe his numbers aren't spectacular, but they were decent, especially for a rookie in the playoffs.

The problem you guys have is ascribing an undue amount of weight to small sample sizes while ignoring larger indicators of performance that do not necessarily adhere to your pre-arranged narrative.

Ok, but his biggest sample size is when he played in the Q where he clearly put up good offensive numbers.

I get your point and I agree with it to an extent, but in the same vein, how much stock can you put in to 69 games in the AHL as a rookie, with an NHL lockout bumping you down the depth chart.

The fact is that the scouts loved him at draft time, the coach of Bingo loves him, and it appears as though the stache loves him too.

Dorion, Richardson and Maclean > Forumice faithful I think.
