The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I seemed to have lost my DVDs of the first two seasons of Clone High so I'm pissed. But that was soooo good. New seasons are ick.

"Nothing bad ever happens to the Kennedys !!!!!!"

Pretty sure I’ve still got my downloads of the first couple of seasons.

Had no idea this show had even come back either. I assume they wussed out and got rid of Gandhi?

But that package proposal was ridiculed here, and the straight up deal is somehow genius think outside the box innovation.

Because about half of all top 5 picks turn into star/superstars and almost every draft has a star or superstar available at the #5 if you evaluate talent well as an organization.

If there’s one position we’ve got pretty locked down it’s left wing. If you love McKenna and believe in Cowan, and Knies gets you an elite piece, it’s at least something to consider.

I absolutely love that all the rumours are that he’s asking for the moon though.

Upside. You're chasing upside with this proposed trade vs the habs one. Trading him for a winger prospect with knies-like upside is nowhere near as appealing as trading him for a shot at a #1d. Pretty simple concept here.

Also no one said it's outside the box innovation.

Habs deal has similar upside potential, if not more. It's just not all centered on one kid.

And the fact that it's not outside the box thinking is the reason it's a stupid risk to take. Any idiot can trade a 23 year old stud power forward for a mystery box. I'd like to think we are much smarter than that in the risk/reward ratio of the moves we make. We are under no compulsion and in no desperate situation such that we have to consider such a risky move.

A winger who probably will never be as good as Knies and 2 late 1sts has as much upside potential as a possible #1d? Wut.

More uncertainty and more risk maybe. But way more upside with this one. You trade Knies for a potential grand slam, not a gay ass "safe" quantity for quality deal.

Important to note that the Tre deal was made thinking you had no first round pick this year, let alone having #1 overall

But also 4 guys who could be better than Knies

Uncertainty works both ways

I would have been happy getting Knies — just as happy keeping the 4 mystery boxes

I guess I'm having issues understanding why it's so difficult to imagine that one home run swing for an elite d prospect is more appealing than a quantity for quality deal with the best piece being a winger with Knies-like upside and the other 3 pieces being kind of shit.

Does doughty have any life left in him? Not sure if he’s even serviceable these days at his age.
I wonder what Doughty thought of Hiller.

Also, what about a trade of Knies for Robert Thomas and the 11th overall, and then you flip that 11th overall with Nic Robertson and or Macelli/Joshua for Thomas Harley and see if you can rfa Mavrik Borque as well

Bias would be my guess

of course, but it's turned into literal wokey kind of stuff... just all the time. Cleopatra didn't have to be hot anymore..just too PC and inclusive focused.

It's not so difficult to imagine. Just as it's not so difficult to imagine trading Knies years before his prime and getting a kid who turns out to be a #4 dman or a bust altogether.

It's a stupid risk.
