Meh, hated Krusty when he played, pretty much had forgotten about him. I can get used to him as a Leaf asst. coach I guess.

I absolutely hated Pat Burns when he was coaching the Habs. Was royally pissed off when the Leafs hired him, swore I'd never watch another Leafs game as long as he was there.

Didn't take long to reverse my feelings on that one.
 
Turning down Spezza, as an actual player, at the league minimum salary he was willing to take, would have been silly, sure.

But an assistant coach? C’mon. Let’s not pretend Ratface is going to be some tremendously valuable indispensable asset in that role. Hire someone else.
 
We dropped our nuts onto their nose every playoff series we've seen them in. All they have on us is the one time Alfie had a bit of fun mocking Mats (who is and always has been a very good friend of his).

If Mats thinks he's right for the job, I'm good with trusting Mats here. I'd much rather see us hiring 1150 point ex NHL'ers than career 13th forwards who were mindless gud pros.

All the more reason not to hire him. Yet another career loser from a team legendary for their playoff choke jobs and underachieving being brought in to try and show our guys how to win.

Let’s find jobs for Thornton and Marleau again while we’re at it. Give them the chance to play dad to Gavin McKenna this time around.
 
Really hard to get a read on what assistant coaches are bringing to the table, I kinda feel like if they think he brings a valuable perspective then who really cares who he used to play for.

And I think bringing in Marleau and Thornton as players is a totally different thing tbh.

We all hated Alfie b/c he was a game breaker for a heated rival.

He’s an Olympic gold medalist
Has over 1000 NHL pts
NHL captain for over a decade
Stanley Cup finalist who’s won 13 playoff rounds in a 17yr career

Dudes a gamer and a leader, and having guys like that in the room is never a bad thing.

in any event Hiller as coach and Chayka as GM is something exactly nobody would have predicted in the spring; this is probably considerably less weird a hire than those tbh

I think there’s a bit more to it than that. I mean the guy has a pretty good career resume as an NHL player and has NHL coaching experience.

If they hired some random dude that Sundin has known all his life, or brought in his wife to run the pk, then I would chalk it up to being due to their personal relationship, but I’m going to give more credit to Alfie than just being friends with Mats.
