The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

In a former job I've had, I dealt with lots of politicians and their families. I'd met Trudeau a few times (before he was PM), and always found him very charismatic and charming. IMO, he was more down to earth than most of them, if somewhat performative and always "on".

I'm just glad he's enjoying his new lease on life, and gets to bang an accomplished astronaut. The fact it drives his detractors nuts is a little bonus feature we can all enjoy.
 
I never especially liked Trudeau all that much and never forgave him for wanting the Habs to keep Halak and trade Price but I love that his hardcore haters are upset that his absolute rock bottom consisted of dating a rock star and partying all over the world

Why are you directing this to me? I literally barely know they exist. She’s also kinda trailer trash, so I don’t think this is some kind of amazing pull or anything. I do think a former PM in his mid 50s looks like a bit of clown jumping around in her video with his hair flopping like a teenager. But again, never really cared about him and still don’t.

Why do you hate love?
 
I don’t have any great affection for Trudeau, but I don’t hate the man either.

I thought he was a bit of a lightweight and a mostly mediocre PM who meant well and generally tried his best, but got dealt a generationally bad hand with Trump getting elected almost right after he did, a global pandemic halfway through his tenure and then Trump getting re-elected again at the end of his tenure.

I will forever be grateful that he ended Stephen Harper’s career in electoral politics just as he started fully leaning into US-style far-right grievance politics & open racism (“barbaric culture practices snitch line”, anyone?). And I’ll also forever be grateful to him for stepping in where Doug Ford and the City of Ottawa utterly abdicated their responsibilities and doing whatever was necessary to crush the “Freedom Convoy” with extreme prejudice. That was his version of his dad crushing the FLQ.

I also delight in the incandescent, unhinged obsessive rage and hate that same group of Maple MAGA clowns have towards Trudeau, and that they had to watch him hand off his job just in time to the exact perfect person to crush the ambitions of their candidate Pierre Poilievre, before riding off into the sunset and spending his life on a perma-globe-trotting vacation with his new wealthy, hot, pop-star girlfriend.
 
I hated Trudeau mostly and felt he was dog shit but I sort of love him now. To be able to create so much rage from the maga crew all because he enjoys life and doesn't do a handjob dance move while listening to YMCA. It's honestly perfect. He's the best.

Eh, I've got no qualms with him acting like a regular human being who does things out of actual joy for life and not this stodgy bullshit "I am a very serious person" cosplay the upper class insists on performing in public (while they do all sort of illegal and/or debauched shit as soon as they think no one is watching)

I'm not embarrassed at all by him doing some fun shit in a pop video, he's an ex prime minister, not a sitting prime minister.

You know what's actually embarrassing? When an ex prime minister spends the rest of his life selling his access & connections to the highest bidder on corporate boards, or being the founding member of right wing think tanks trying to dismantle the democratic rule of law in European nations. Like, shit that suggests that he's always actually hated the type of people he used to govern.

I think whatever Trudeau wants to do in his private life is his business. The part that I think is cringe, though, is that it looks like a big part of the reason he's even with her is all the attention he's getting publicly. He's got older kids who need to watch their father act like he's 15 all over social media. Just feels like nobody needs to see this mid life crisis play out like this from someone who was supposed to be a bit of a serious person.

You don’t have to see it though. Why are you watching his and Katy Perry’s social media clips if they bother you?
