The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

It’s sort of Matthew’s fault. He wasn’t exactly giving “looking forward to next yr” vibes at his goodbye interview

Yeah, the only reason I assume it's Paul is because he got caught red handed in the past for having burners on Twitter. But fair point, fair point. Could definitely be Mitch too.

EDIT: actually he has some tweets during some Vegas games so that rules Mitchy out. Definitely Paul.

I really like that Dom analysis and have pretty good (not total) confidence that Chayka had mapped it similarly - all focus has to be on getting a legit #1D and legit two-way heavy usage #3C. Not easy, but you make it easier when you focus only on that and don't handcuff yourself with shitty unnecessary expensive moves around the edges.

Yes the fringes of the roster you can tweak and stylize into your more preferred style but that's an on going everchanging process of small move after small move - and the most important thing is not to waste much cap or assets on thise fringe moves.

Everything needs to be focused on those two slots and this isn't something to rush - wait until legit guys come available for whatever reason. If you do settle for a secondary option there make the hell sure it's not a longterm thing.

It would make our D even older but is that temp #1 john carlsson?

Still playing 23+ min a night and putting up points.

If you can't pry a werenski, or Fox is that a better solution than Rasmus Andersson at 8x7

Raddysh's career 82 game pace:

Age 17 - OHL - 82 gp, 4 gls, 18 pts
Age 18 - OHL - 82 gp, 19 gls, 66 pts
Age 19 - OHL - 82 gp, 10 gls, 49 pts
Age 20 - OHL - 82 gp, 21 gls, 107 pts
Age 21 - AHL - 82 gp, 6 gls, 27 pts
Age 22 - AHL - 82 gp, 10 gls, 32 pts
Age 23 - AHL - 82 gp, 8 gls, 37 pts
Age 24 - AHL - 82 gp, 7 gls, 51 pts
Age 25 - AHL - 82 gp, 9 gls, 34 pts
Age 26 - AHL - 82 gp, 21 gls, 84 pts
Age 27 - NHL - 82 gp, 6 gls, 33 pts
Age 28 - NHL - 82 gp, 7 gls, 42 pts
Age 29 - NHL - 82 gp, 25 gls, 79 pts

He's followed the same path at every level. He was shit at the ages when top players are breaking out at that level, then he's pretty good for a couple years, but nothing special. Then he explodes as soon as you think he is what he is.

Its unusual development path, but he is clearly a late bloomer at ever level and maybe its sustainable.

Nah, I think one of the worst things you can do right now with us in the position where our two best players are legitimately concerned about their future here and we need a bounce back season is to let perfect be the enemy of really good, or even good. Passing on a Raddysh or even Andersson today because we hope Werenski or Fox come available (assuming Fox isn't available this summer) is kind of nuts. Even if we went out in free agency and did what I was suggesting (Sign all 3, Raddysh, Andersson, & Coyle) to fill our most pressing needs immediately, and super fantastic options at both came available in trade later, cap matching the salaries isn't going to be a problem. I mean, I think we all understand that a Werenski or Fox is going to cost Knies. Knies + Carlo is an 11 million dollar cap hit. Fox is 9.5, and Werenski is 9.6.

If there are good players that we could use available in free agency that we can get on reasonable deals (again, I'll defer to AFP here for the projected values) just do it and manage whatever gymnastics are required later to fit an elite player into the lineup if we can land one.

I mean, depends on the contract. Would you rather pay Andersson 9 million from ages 30-36, or Carlson 6.1 million from ages 37-39

They were interchangeable in total value according to Dom last year, with Carlson being a bit negative defensively but impact level offensively. Basically a better version of what we wish Rielly had been the last few years. Andersson comfortable above average on both sides of the puck but not elite at either.

imo, Carlson's biggest attribute for us would be on the PP with his shot and Raddysh might just be flat out better at that than him. Raddysh has a fucking missile and will probably cost a similar AAV.
