they gotta get more mobile with the puck on defense. Can’t have all of McCabe, Carlo, Benoit, Tanev.

I’d keep OEL until we have upgrades on a couple of those guys.

And does Rielly return to form under a new coach? Or is he cooked? He’s looked cooked. Too bad because he was a good one a few years back.

As a long time Rielly bath water afficionado, if there is a deal out there for him with no or minimal retention/bad salary coming back and he'll waive, I think you pull the trigger.

I would rather throw the money at Raddysh and Andersson.

I can't believe his dad just passed away. I knew him well around 10 years ago, was so proud of his boys (at the time taylor was the crown jewel). And at the time they (and all prospects at the draft) wanted nothing to do with playing with or getting drafted to the leafs. But that was mostly because of the competition that was required to break through since they were stacked with young talent. Those were the days...

trade Knies and whatever for Fox.

McCabe-Fox
OEL-Tanev
Rielly-Blankenburg

Ideally you can move Mo and somehow get a legit top 4 d that can play tough minutes like Byram or something.

But having a guy that can play 30 mins a game changes everything.

I don’t have any faith raddysh is actually good.

Nerdies and offensive production have been good to very good over 3 years now and Tampa doesn't seem to have missed a beat on the blueline despite Hedman's injury + decline.

I'm not talking about throwing elite money at him, but Rielly-ish money? That's going to be #3 money shortly.

I'm down for that too, aside from Tanev's presence. He's dead Jim.

So what is the issue with Rielly? Sure I’d like an upgrade on the cap hit. Is he done though? Do we see him under a different coach and see if he can get back to what he was ?

Impossible to know tbh. He's almost 32 so no one should be shocked if he was declining but we also play maybe the worst style of hockey in the league for a defensively limited, transition oriented mobile puck mover.

I would look for a deal, but I'm not retaining a significant amount or taking dogshit salary back either.

If true this just seems so lazy to me. How about you identify players around the league that may be undervalued or you may see as a franchise changing d or something and offer Knies for him?

I mean I'd rather treliving didn't do that because he'd identify the wrong player but it feels lazy to have teams offer up players that they'd be ok to get rid of, rather than the leafs go out and find a player themselves. And I mean Knies is a great trade chip to use for that d that they've been lacking for years.

I question why Fox would waive his no move to go from the Rangers to the Leafs?

The Rangers want to tank, we don't. Would have to assume that the captain of the US olympic team would be doing some heavy lifting on the recruitment front.

If the blues win tomorrow and the leafs lose, leafs are 4 points from 5th last and the blues will have 1 game in hand.

Just keep in mind that finishing 5th last gives you something like a 42% chance of picking top 5. So naturally they'll get the 6th pick in this scenario.

It would be unbelievable to add a top prospect to the organization at this moment, one of those fluke lottery wins like the Rangers and Islanders did.
