Could be the leafs leaking that to have some leverage on trade negotiations.

Is what I'd say if they had competent management.
 
The intelligent thing is that they are leaking extension talks to scare teams they are talking trade with

The Leafy thing is a Trent Frederic level contract to keep the cap hit down.

funny how much this team mirrors that one.

in 12-13, under new coach Randy and new GM Nonis, the Leafs had a surprsingly good season finishing in 4th in the conference, but with terrible underlying metrics. Just like last year in Brooby's 1st year, though granted last year the leafs finished 4th overall not just 4th in the conference.

and then the next year, the chickens came home to roost, and the terrible underlying nerdies caught up with both teams, and the leafs finished 22nd with a .512pts%. This year the leafs are 22nd with a .524pts%, with that record likely getting worse after the trade deadline.

and just like this year, those 13-14 leafs didn't make the obvious move and fire Nonis and Randy. and the next year they dropped even further down to 28th....and only then did they fire Randy halfway through the season, and fire Nonis at the end of the season.

are we going to be morons again and give these guys another year?

at least those guys kept their 1st round picks, and were able to draft Nylander and Marner after those two terrible years. we don't even have that.
