funny how much this team mirrors that one.

in 12-13, under new coach Randy and new GM Nonis, the Leafs had a surprsingly good season finishing in 4th in the conference, but with terrible underlying metrics. Just like last year in Brooby's 1st year, though granted last year the leafs finished 4th overall not just 4th in the conference.

and then the next year, the chickens came home to roost, and the terrible underlying nerdies caught up with both teams, and the leafs finished 22nd with a .512pts%. This year the leafs are 22nd with a .524pts%, with that record likely getting worse after the trade deadline.

and just like this year, those 13-14 leafs didn't make the obvious move and fire Nonis and Randy. and the next year they dropped even further down to 28th....and only then did they fire Randy halfway through the season, and fire Nonis at the end of the season.

are we going to be morons again and give these guys another year?

at least those guys kept their 1st round picks, and were able to draft Nylander and Marner after those two terrible years. we don't even have that.

After that 12-13 season, Leafs added Bolland, Clarkson, Raymond, Ranger and a young 19yr old Rielly. And Bernier. (they replaced Grabovski, Kulemin, MacArthur, Kostka, Scrivens).

After the 24-25 season, Leafs added Roy, Joshua, Maccelli, Stecher and a young 20yr old Cowan. (replacing Marner, Paciroetty, Holmberg, Timmins, Reaves).

I mean the leafs should very clearly sell every single player that would return anything half decent. Leafs are loaded with the typical overvalued acquisitions. Carlo, Laughton, Roy, Benoit, Lorentz, etc. It's like a gm carefully curated this list by acquiring and overpaying for a bunch of trash in recent years.

Oh wait.

Lebrun is pretty hilarious too. They're all shit tbh. Dreger is just especially bad for it.

Dreger & Seravalli are by far the worst for being know-nothing twats that craft false narratives out of whole cloth for the explicit purpose of trolling Leaf fans.

Lebrun isn’t quite as bad, but he’s in the next tier down from those two. His thing is moreso coming up with hilariously bad trade ideas for the Leafs, and then trying very hard to manifest them into reality.

Almost the exact Laughton trade, depending on what you think of grebs vs the 5th rounder. Both have a 3m aav. Both had one extra year of term.

But the flyers also retained 50% so perhaps not a completely fair comparison. That was probably enough to get Grebs vs the 5th, but Grebs was always kind of shit so whatever.

Bigger problem is that Roy is better than Laughton and technically should have returned more.

Edit: oh leafs also got a 4th and 6th back with Laughton. So yeah, this is probably fair. bUyErS mArKeT

Dreger is what Eklund would be if Eklund had a TSN gig and Paul Marner's phone number.

I heard Kypreos say the other day that Roy will maybe return a 4th rounder. I usually don't consume that slop but I turned it on for a minute and heard that. I really don't think these people know anything most of the time.

After that Rangers loss I wonder if Pelley is going to send out another completely out of touch corporate email to the tickeholders. MJ was right the other day on Overdrive, maybe keep Pelley as the merch guy or whatever, but they need a real hockey President as a direct line to the ownership and a voice to advocate for the real best interests of the team. They had the right idea with Shanny but ultimately he wasn't the right hire.

Honestly the real danger here is that the new Rogers ownership doesn't give a fuck about the Cup and is deaf to the outside noise.
