TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Jordan Eberle won him a WJC and he's been riding it ever since. Former phenom ruined by lack of fast twitch muscle fibers and afraid of face washes.

JT is a bitch. Accept it.
Led us to the game 5 win, set us up for the series win in game 6. Scored what would’ve been the tying goal in game 7. What a useless bitch. I wish Matty was as much a bitch the last three games. We’d be moving on to Florida.

So glad he led us to game 5 glory.

Yes, Eberle has been carrying him his whole career. Let’s not let the alcohol do the typing tonight.

xG actually does a pretty good job of analyzing the series for us

1st line did a lot of pimping and was very good.
The middle 6 got shuffled around a bunch and was a mixed bag. Kerfoot was good until game 6, Nylander was mercurial but produced. Tavares was ass aside from game 6 and our usual 3rd line was terrible other than Kampf, the 4th line other than Spezza unplayable.

We had a lot of guys who just weren't going consistently.

Blueline:

-Brodie and Muzzin were very good in heavy lifting
-Gio/Holl were very good
-Rielly was mercurial, like the blueline's Willy to a degree. Boosh was fucking terrible.
-Lilly was bad and got the quick hook after 2 games we were pretty ass in analytically.

You're a fanboy. He's a slow, overpaid 2C. Get off his jock.
He’s a guy who stepped up and did exactly what was expected of him. I’m not praising him. He delivered as our 2C, but he’s the scapegoat somehow. No issues whatsoever with the 1C.

You don’t need any dumb fucking x chart to tell you Tavares was one of our best players overall in the series. He had 6 points in 7 games, most of them in the last 3 games, and had a goal called back. Gee I’m sorry he couldn’t deliver 12 points in 7 like Matty and Marner did. Thank goodness for xgass.

Amazing how the great “real” captain always escapes criticism despite coming up empty in every single clutch game, but the 2C is somehow the real problem. Jesus.

You realize Auston had a goal in game 6 and then the primary assist on the only goal we scored tonight, right? How is that coming up empty? 1G, 1 Primary Apple in 2 games, along with possession dominance.

Playoffs since JT signed: 20 games, 7G, 7A.

Auston over that same time period: 25 games, 12 G, 14A

I’m not talking about JT and producing points. A culture shift in the locker room looks to be needed to get over the hump. Would roll with Matthews and let him be the “man”. He has more a cockiness to him instead of that quiet and cool that JT is.

Except he wasn't. He spent most of the series chasing the puck around in his own end. He's been a playoff flop since he got here:

No dumb fucking x charts...real goals only

18/19: 37.5% GF
19/20: 17% GF
21/22: 50% GF

I love Matty too. But the way he gets away with no criticism is ridiculous. If there was no Tavares on the team and this happened, you’d be talking about Nylander. If he wasn’t around, you’d be ragging on overpaid Marner. Then Campbell, then Rielly. You would never actually get to Matthews. I’m not saying he sucks or he should go, but he has NOT delivered an elite performance in any of the last 5 elimination games. Throw the xgbullshit out the window. This is a fact. If you just can’t admit it, it’s okay. I don’t want it to be true either and next year at this time I’ll be hoping “this is the year” yet again. But it doesn’t look like it’s happening without a take the game over performance from our best player, or second best player even, both of whom are making the same $11m as your constant obsession.

You're right, the last person I would blame for losing a series is the guy who led it in scoring, the guy who had the best possession & xG stats, made big plays the entire series, etc. Who had a goal and a primary dime along with like 70% possession/impact when he was on the ice over those 2 games you're claiming he didn't deliver in.

Go and look at the game logs for the best players in the world. They just don't do what you think they're doing in these key playoff games very often, and against elite teams even less often. This is some weirdo super hero fantasy you've got going. The teams that win get contributions up and down the lineup. Mitchy, Matthews, and Mo connected on a scoring play tonight...where the fuck was everyone else?

I only had to look as far back as…tonight to fuel my crazy superhero fantasy.

“Game 6 may have been the best game McDavid has played in his NHL career, as he put this team on his back in an elimination game on the road.

Back at home in Game 7, McDavid set up Cody Ceci for the first goal at 13:15 of the second period, then drove the knife deep into the Kings’ hearts with a wild solo effort that made the score 2-0 with less than four minutes to play.

In all, he was in on five of the six goals Edmonton scored in Games 6 and 7. Sure, he’s known for five- and six-point nights, but in these two games, his all-around game has been Crosby-like, his utter dominance Gretzkian.”

I’m sure his xgfml was terrible though.

We need to get this ONCE in six years, no? You can’t constantly call him the best in the world, better than no-D McDavid, but then say we should never expect dominant superhero performances in these most important games year after year.

I love him but I’m sick of this shit. And when I’m sick of this shit I look to the best player for those extra 1-2 goals we need to take us over the top, not the third or fourth or fifth best players. Tavares put the puck in the back of the net three times in the last two games. If Matty is infinitely better, why don’t you demand even equal production??

We needed the best games of Matty’s LIFE in just ONE of the past two games. Did we get anything near that?

Unfortunately there is no easy way to fix a curse. If you trade Willy you are most likely making the team worse immediately. If you trade Muzzin you are most likely making the team worse immediately. Obviously, Mikheyev, Blackwell, Boosh and Gio are out and Robertson, Knies (by the end of the season), Sandin and Lilly are in. Then you play around with the mid tier of the lineup. It will be the same team though. Tampa is able to win whether their depth is Johnson/Gourde/Coleman/Goodrow or Colton/Paul/Hagel/Perry. It doesn't really matter.

There was nothing they were obviously missing this series. They had every chance to win and still lost.

Except a goalie. They badly need a goalie. Even replacing .897 sad Jack, with .906 shitty Fleury would have saved an extra 2 goals, which is maybe enough to win game 6 or get to OT in game 7. That has to be the #1 focus of the offseason.

I'll post the plan again with one addition:

Trade Muzzin for a 1st, 2nd and a B prospect
Sign Gio for 1.5
Let Mik go
Keep Eng for cheap
Sign Jack for 3.5 for 2-3 years
Trade Kerf
Sign new Buntings + you can probably afford something else
Try to dump Mrazek without adding too much to the package. Replace with another 3-4m dollar goalie. Hope for competency and a legit platoon
