Tom Gilbert leads all NHL d-men in . . .

My understanding is that fancy stats were a very important part of the Chicago organization so this doesn't surprise me.

Speaking of which, I've been very pleased with Parenteau so far. He might not be great defensively or especially strong in the corner but he's a savvy offensive player that makes his line better by making smart play and having a knack to find open ice.

Advanced analytics are a big part of Los Angeles as well:

The thing with advanced analytics is that they're like scouting with your own two eyes: By themselves, they're flawed and you'll be hard-pressed to build a team that way. It's one of the reasons that while Benoit Pouliot has great advanced analytics, what my two eyes tell me contradict those.

Didn't Pouliot cost the Habs the series against the Bruins in 2011 with a stupid penalty? Is there a fancy stat for that?

Beaulieu is only 21 years old. Teams that trade young, slick skating, PMD's, usually regret doing so. MB won't trade him. He'll be here for the next decade at least . . . regardless of what Sal thinks of him.

That's what we once thought of another young, slick skating, PMD that is now the captain of the Rangers.

Don't compare McDonagh to Beaulieu. One of the two actually cared about playing defense while the other...

I'm not convinced Beaulieu is long for the NHL to be honest. While his attitude has greatly improved since his draft year, he still has some of it (according to a report anyway) and he's still awful in his own end.

Gorges was way better than Gilbert defensively, it's not even close, but Gilbert moves the puck much better than Gorges. And yes he had quite a few turnovers so far, he was especially bad in that department against Boston. He had 32 giveaways all season last year so I think it's safe to say that for him to have 10 already is an anomaly.
Turnovers are a terrible stat.

They are not measured the same in every rink in the nhl.

Montreal defencemen always are amongst league leaders as the bell centre scorer hands out approximately 1.5x the number of turnovers per game as the average rink.

Until the league makes an accurate standard for turnovers and hits they are two stats you can safely ignore.

He reminds me of Hollywood Hainsey so much...with his off ice issues and talent.

I hope he doesn't turn out like him.

He's still a kid who's maturing.

The only "D-Zone" shit for brains knows of, is the corner watering hole that'll allow him & the old man to hold keg stand duo competitions.

When ur old man is a sidekick (drinking buddy), it means u were not a product of a "good home", and embracing the immature behavior w the old man instead of fighting it tends to lend credence to character flaws being next to irreversible (deeply ingrained).

Many players come from less than desirable family circumstances (Ryan, Metropolit etc..) yet character pulls them away rather than towards, allowing them to grow, develop as adults & prosper as professionals.

Immaturity at 20-21 is one thing, but Ribeiro-like lack of desire to be a professional is altogether different.

Based on Gagnon's revelations after the TBay loss, Nate-the-Great still isn't "getting it".

IMO this is a serious team that seems to be on a mission, there's no room for a Ribeiro regardless of talent level, just sayin...

Hainsey had a very respectable NHL career.
Is this about accepting what was considered a top-10 pick in the draft, to be respectable, or using "what he can be marketing ploy" into acquiring a real strong young asset who will help lead to the promise land?

Yep, I know, Montreal is notoriously generous in turnovers. It's a good stat if compared within a team but not across teams.

He had a decent career but never lived up to his billing.

But in the end you're right in that he managed to find work in the NHL

Yeah he reminds me of Hainsey as well. Not sure what was his billing, he was projected as a top 4 D, and he was that for a good part of his career. I don't see Beaulieu as a top 2 but he has the potential for a top 4 as well.

About the Gagnon's revelations (that you should take with a grain of salt), what was the issue again? That he wasn't visibly upset after the TB loss? Why should he be, when the rest of the world wasn't?

The main reasons he isn't back in the lineup yet is because we won our last two games and Tinordi is playing well. It's going to be like that most of the season, NB and JT will be alternating in and out of the lineup, up until one or both of them forces a veteran out of the lineup.
