****ing bastards, making us wait right down to the wire.

Man, I am glad this got done, though. I'd long since lost hope that they'd actually agree to terms.

If the caphit is 6.5 years two to six, perfect. Everybody wins. Except fans that have to awkwardly root for Nylander after bashing him this whole process.

So, Dubas kind of caved here, if he'd been holding firm at $6.5M.

Ended up going up to $7.5M X 6 years in the end, and because of the late signing date, that brings down the cap hit for the later years to $6.9M.

He's also making Nylander whole for the time missed this year with a signing bonus, and giving him lockout protection money in the form of a signing bonus.

If the cap hit isless years 2-6, does it matter? It only affects things this year and we have plenty

That post might have come off as complainy, but I'm perfectly happy with the contract.

Like I said on the other thread, I was hoping for something at least six years long, around Pastrnak's cap hit for years 2-forward, and $6.9M is definitely close enough. I have little doubt this contract will be considered a bargain contract pretty quickly.

I was just pointing out that it looks like the Leafs were the ones who made a big move towards the other side's number in the end.

I've thought for a while that we should be hoping to get the big 3 signed for $27m.

$11m + $9m + $7m would work out perfectly, but getting Mitch at $9m might be tough.

$7.5m was the upper limit for me. Not great given it only eats one year of UFA.

If Nylander doesn't outperform this deal, he'll be gone before long.

Mirtle wrote an article that shows fair value for Nylander is $6.7M - $7.3M, depending on how long the deal is, so getting 6 yrs @ just under $7 is smack in the middle. In terms of the deal, I think it is a very fair deal, slightly in Dubas's favour. Nylander does get $10.5M in year 1 so he doesn't lose any $$ on the 20ish games lost, which is a small victory for his camp as well.

Now let's get to play and prove your worth Willy. Glad you're still a Leaf.
