**William Nylander signs for 6 years, per Dreger**

The Leafs were always exasperated by it. They liked Nylander. They wanted him. They didn’t want to move him in a dimes for a dollar deal, the way teams like the Oilers have with young scorers in the past. Throughout their prolonged, difficult negotiation, that was a message Leafs management gave the player again and again.

Then Kyle Dubas killed the narrative altogether with a trident on Monday afternoon. (He may need to find a safe house and lay low for a while.)

“I don’t know why that’s a surprise that that’s said,” Dubas said, when the first question he received was about an assurance he gave Nylander that he wouldn’t be dealt as long as he was GM. “I’ve been on the record as saying that. I think the record – I assume it matters to everyone in here? It’s our intention to have him here as long as we’re here.

“He’s an excellent young player. I don’t think we want to get in the business of not having excellent young players. That’s how we feel about it. It was a lot of the discussion between us, and I think that’s because of the nature of this thing and how it went. But it’s our full intention to have him here as long as we possibly can. And with all of our young players.”

Burke went on air on the weekend and said this team isn’t a contender, but it’s hard not to read that as sour grapes. Dubas, after all, was part of the crew that was hired in 2014 to clean up his mess.

I didn't say ban him.

For the record, I banned teeds within the first hour of his posting 20 years ago on the HockeyBoards. I did it for exactly what he's doing here and has consistently done ever since Kevin reinstated him (which prompted me to resign).

Yeah, that can be a bit annoying.

Though I've had teeds on ignore for months now, and generally it's been pretty good. He doesn't seem to get quoted too often, and his desperate attention-seeking doesn't seem to take over discussions the way it once did. So I figure either a lot of people besides me have him on ignore, and/or generally people have seen this movie many times before and are sick of it, so they treat him like the guy raving nonsensically on the street corner and just keep walking.

Terrific stuff from Mirtle.

Him, Jonas Siegel & Bob McKenzie have been some of the lone voices of reason in a sea of nonsense about how they can't possibly afford to keep this core together, or how one of Marner or Nylander (I've lost count of how many times the mainstream hockey media has flipped back and forth between the two) absolutely must be traded for a defenseman.

And i'm all in favour of banning someone for being too stupid.
 
For a guy so follicly blessed throughout his life and at this age especially, what he does to his hair should be an indictable offense.
 
Oh teeds shouldn't be banned. I generally don't mind him. I skim over his ramblings and they're pretty funny from time to time.

But I found the homophobia stuff interesting. I personally don't give a **** and aren't offended. It's just that usually in 2018 people go on witch hunts over that stuff. But I suppose it's teeds so no one cares.
