**William Nylander signs for 6 years, per Dreger**

eh. I'm with you on the silliness of the "dubas won" narrative, but this 5.7 seasons stuff is just as silly.

it doesn't matter how many games he misses for sitting out or for suspensions or for injuries or how many playoff games he plays for "free" - it's $7m x 6, in every way that matters.

I think we generally agree.....5.7 only matters in the context that, $7m x 6 would have been a bigger win for us if he'd played all year.......and this $10.2m prorated was only possible because we had the free cap space to do it.

It was ostensibly a built in "loss" Dubas was willing to take, because like you say "in every way that matters" (to the team), itd be $7m x 6.

The fact Gross got Nylander paid for the full season, is a real meaningful negotiation win from his perspective too.

Like....we gained nothing from the 28 games missed, but they seemingly got us to move from $6-6.3m.....to paying him a real $7m per, for all 6 years.

Dermott sent to Marlies to make room for Nylander today....obviously (hopefully) just a paperwork move to get WM on the roster, until we waive someone, tomorrow.

They had to demote one of the waiver-exempt kids in any case, as it was the only way to get under the roster limit today.

Thing is though, they could have just as easily picked someone to waive today at the same time, and they didn't.

Makes me wonder if Dubas might be working on clearing a roster spot through a trade. Perhaps shipping out someone like Marincin, Gauthier or Leivo for a draft pick.

it's gotta be a dman moved out, imo.

ahl dmen (3) are readier than the ahl forwards (1).

I do agree that moving out a defenseman seems like the likeliest choice. But I'm not sure the bolded statement is true.

I think there might be a few Marlie forwards they'd be comfortable with calling up, especially if they're just filling in on the wing at the bottom of the lineup.

Either one of Moore or Grundstrom for sure, and maybe Marchment or Timashov as well. Adam Brooks may also work himself into the mix now that he's healthy.

On D, I know you have a hard-on for Sandin/Liljegren getting called up as soon as possible, but I'll be really surprised if we see either of them in the NHL this year. Seeing as they're both teenagers, I think the organization's going to take it pretty slow with them. Looking at the rest of the defense, I could see them being comfortable calling up Rosen or Borgman, but that's about it.

What point is there for Marincin to stick around? Putting aside Dub’s supposed analytical love, who’s he ever going to displace? I really hope no one is expecting him to replace Hainsey next year or something. Let him go and get his career going elsewhere.

Marc Savard: I believe it’s giving Kyle Dubas time to trade one of the players that are the odd man out! Instead of losing them on waivers!

Candidates are Leivo, Marincin, Gauthier, Ennis, Holl.

I think they intend to hold onto Gauthier for center depth, Holl because RHD, and probably Ennis.

So Marincin and Leivo, and out of those two it has to be Marincin. No use for him and he’s a UFA next year. They owe him the chance to go earn a contract somewhere. They can’t just let him rot here for nothing.

Where do we have more depth? I'd argue grundstrom, marchment and Moore provide more depth than Rosen.

Leivo could very well be the odd man out

I'll tell you one thing, Toronto sports media made a killing off of this "deadline day". Probably bigger than free agent frenzy.

That's my thinking as well on this! Dermott has been a stud this year, probably our 2nd best D behind Rielly this season, I can't see Dubas taking him out of the lineup for a long time. I agree, it's a move to buy time, so that Dubas can trade one of the "depth players" to clear up a roster spot for Dermott.

Sorta stinks that a young stud that has bled blue, has to be sent down. Oh well, at least he is well paid.

Get Marchment up here and get him up soon, now that we have charmin soft Nylander this team is about to get really soft and soon.

Not happy about signing him, hope he goes on a tear and introduces himself to a corner and fights for a puck. Just a really soft player

And BeLeafer, Nylander on a par with Tavares? Dude, come on. Throw the analytics out the window for a second. Jeezus, I want to throw up. And bring back Burke, almost.

You know what? This calls for a "call".

The Leafs will definitely go downhill having this charmin soft player in the fold. No question. This will be seen as the tipping point of the Leafs season.

Why would anyone pay any turkey that much money and bring him onto a team that is close to first overall in the NHL.

Definitely dumb and its going to invite hundreds of Steve Simmons to dump all over the team.

Dumb Dubas. If he trades Nylander fine. But if not..... Just a dumb move.\\

Kypreos, Burke and Simmons have already got their knives out already, and you know what? Good on em. Don't monkey with a working engine.

Nylander is going to kill the dressing room, the bench, everything.

But I am excited about this opportunity its where analytics take a huge dump. Where a nerd like Dubas gets fried over the coals.

BeLeafer, Nylander on a par with a Tavares.

Man this is going to almost be fun to watch. This is the new Schenn call.

Imagine if we had a John Tavares playing alongside Morgan Rielly. To me, that is Jacob Slavin. Real shame we didn't get him for softie.

I don't care all that much for regular season hockey any more. Sure its fun to watch. But I want to see one more strong Dman on the back end. Adding more offence wasn't all that needed.

I hope Dubas didn't promise Willy too much, because I would love to see him traded if we can get a stud on the back end.

Jonas Siegel: William Nylander: “Kyle has told me multiple times that as long as he’s here he’s not going to trade me.”

I want to get mad at him, but he looked so damn cute talking to reporters. The hair looks better than ever.
We are keeping everyone aside from Jake. Cap should be approx. 83 million. Trust our GQ GM.

I'm pretty sure Dubas is stoked about having a longterm top-4 of Rielly/Dermott/Sandin/Liljegren.
