OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

yeah he's been a beast this season. he just has to stop injuring himself, I think its happened twice this season, once in ST cutting himself with a knife then during the season, falling down down ths stairs. we have Morrow who needs to learn to pitch on the road and Romero needs to figure out how to pitch vs the Red Sox
 
HR's will always be a problem with him, it's the nature of the beast when your best pitch is a change up and your fastball is only 87mph. Hitters with a quick enough bat are going to be able to sit changeup and still drive the fastball the opposite way with power if he leaves it over the outer half.

Without the TJ, had he been able to keep his 90-91mph fastball with the pitching talents he's developed since, it would have been a lot harder to get a hold of that fastball when sitting changeup.
 
there's a good chance that he gets back up there in a year or two.

what he's doing is not very common. most guys need way more time to recover. he was back throwing in 6 months... and could have pitched last year if the jays weren't so cautious with him.

and that he returned to the majors without missing a beat -- it's just damn impressive. i can't think of a lot of instances off hand where the guy was back within a 15 months of the surgery and showed no drop in effectiveness.
 
the guy flat out knows how to pitch, which is great.

The best thing about our rotation is that our four best pitches (Morrow, Marcum, Romero, Cecil), should all get better in the future, and have already demonstrated that they have the potential to be top of the rotation arms.

If all our damn hitters could put things together for a full year, and if Snider develops, there's lots to be excited about.
 
I'm excited about the fact that we have plus bats (at least potentially) at the two hardest positions to find plus bats at...and they're both young.

That's the cornerstone of a contender...and the reason why the Yankees were so solid every year...Posada & Jeter. The rest is easy to fill in with their budget but finding a SS & C who can both rake is huge.
 
Will be an interesting offseason too. Hard to argue against bringing Buck back, but also looks like Arencibia is ready. I guess in the end we'll have to choose two of those guys and Molina. Molina's a great back-up, handles the staff really well and provides great defense.

Also, I went to the Mets-Nats game today (I'm in Washington for the next four months). Wow was that shitty shitty baseball. Both those teams absolutely stink. Just putrid pitching and defense and hitting. All around suckitude. Would hate to be a fan of one of those teams.

Arencibia looks lost at the plate in a major way other than his first MLB. He is far from a sure thing.

Fair enough but based on his dominance at AAA this year I'm not sure he has anything left to learn there. It looks like his development will be best served now by getting ABs at the major league level.
 
I agree but it appears that he will not get the AB's he needs under Cito.

I'd love to see him to get his feet wet the next month. But it is just not in the cards.
 
Cito will be gone next year though. And he really hasn't earned too many ABs right now. Plus he hasn't looked that fantastic handling the staff yet. No need to rush him.

Will also be interesting to see if we can hang on to Downs and/or Gregg. Downs is about as good an 8th inning man as you can get, but likely is in line for a bloated contract. Gregg has also been pretty good, but I don't doubt that you can find a similar quality closer on the FA market.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed RHP Kevin Gregg to a US $2.75 million contract for the 2010 season, with a club option for US $4.5 million for 2011, or a two year option of US $8.75 million for 2011 and 2012.
 
Keep Gregg, hopefully Frasor turns down arbitration, and I'd say keep Down if you can get him signed to a reasonable contract.

Plus we still have Roenicke and Accardo (although who knows if he'll still be around).
 
Yeah, it's a no-brainer to exercise the option on Gregg, and take the pick on Frasor. With Downs, personally I'd keep him but if he leaves I'll happily take the pick.

There is a 0.0% chance that Accardo returns to the Blue Jays. That bridge is gone.
