if the owners are not lying about the money available to this team, then there is no reason to rush this signing. If Jose repeats, the give him the big bucks. You only risk this type of signings when your owners give you a tight budget.
Jose's been doing great obviously. His form makes one more optimistic than not. But he hasn't repeated this. Until he does, why sign him?
p.s. then again, if the owners are not lying, then maybe you can sign him to a reasonable deal and risk losing that money if he comes back to earth next season. I just think that would be inconsistent with the ownership position this team is trying to sell. "Money will be available when we need it"....well we'll need it when he hits 50 again next year, and we'll need it when we need to add players throughout the lineup to compete with the big boys.
