OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

jose's just awesome.

loving this. the guy's a machine. that's 53 home runs since september 7, 2009.

no looking back. even if his numbers dip next season it's hard to imagine him falling back into a 15 home run guy. he's for real. and the jays should do whatever they can to ink him to an extension right now.

he's going to be a big part of this team moving forward.

Yeah, i'm in agreement. I think I've seen enough from Bautista. Is it risky signing him now? It is, but he's under semi-control for one year. If we can get him to sign a 3 year deal for a reasonable amount of money, it might end up being less risky than waiting a year and having to pay out big bucks or lose him. And that's even if he regresses to 30/100 next year. He will regress, but this is a reasonable expectation.

you have to like his versatility.

even if he falls down to 30/100 and an 850-900 ops he's a plus bat in right and a top notch bat at third base.

and given that the team seems to be a bit logjammed in the outfield being able to rotate him at third is a big plus.

not to mention the fact that you simply cannot entirely rule out another 40 home run season. he could continue to be a top notch power bat. it's definitely within the realm of possibility.

if the owners are not lying about the money available to this team, then there is no reason to rush this signing. If Jose repeats, the give him the big bucks. You only risk this type of signings when your owners give you a tight budget.

Jose's been doing great obviously. His form makes one more optimistic than not. But he hasn't repeated this. Until he does, why sign him?

p.s. then again, if the owners are not lying, then maybe you can sign him to a reasonable deal and risk losing that money if he comes back to earth next season. I just think that would be inconsistent with the ownership position this team is trying to sell. "Money will be available when we need it"....well we'll need it when he hits 50 again next year, and we'll need it when we need to add players throughout the lineup to compete with the big boys.

Carlos Delgado has a small muscle tear in his left hip, according to his agent David Sloane.

Delgado flew to Colorado on Wednesday in order to be examined by Dr. Marc Phillipon, who performed his previous two hip surgeries. He'll return to Pawtucket in order to go over the potential treatment options, however surgery hasn't been ruled out.

"He felt fine when he signed," said Sloane. "He was playing. He was headed in right direction. All of a sudden, he felt pain there. Everything at this point is up in the air. He’s going to need some time to think about the next step." One wonders if that next step might be retirement.

That's too bad, better luck with that hip and Carlos probably sticks around to DH for a few more years, and hits 530-550HR's over his career.

Still not a bad go at it...
