OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

What is wrong with comic book movies? Its not like its Battleship or anything (although as stupid as the concept is a ridiculous action movie packed with explosions and Liam Neeson can't be bad).

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

These comic-book movies damn well should be catering to the nerds who made them rich. I love seeing obscure references and nostalgic images...shows they care.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Wasn't the point of assembling the Avengers, to fight a global threat?

Sure, but why that army in particular and not Kang, Annihilus, Skrulls, or....****ing Ultron?

Because they've clearly decided to follow a Thanos based story arc...potentially a modified inifity gauntlet storyline. Loki and a bunch of faggots on flying chariots wasn't going to do much. Thanos on the other hand, is a legitimately powerful super movie villain who you could possibly see beating the Avengers.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Question for the Marvel comic nerds out there, as I was having a debate about this with a friend after seeing The Avengers. Seeing as they're all Marvel Characters, do the guys in the Avengers and the mutants in X-Men all exist in the same "universe"? He seemed to think they did, while I argued that they didn't, since all the guys in The Avengers would be a whole lot less special with all kinds of super-powerful mutants kicking around everywhere.

Also, **** anyone who looks down their nose at a good popcorn flick. I think my father put it best. He's the most prodigious reader I know, and he's long since read a ton of "classic" and critically acclaimed books. However, he also often likes to read pretty crappy Sci-Fi or generic action books. When I asked him about it, he put it this way: "You can't eat steak all the time. Every once and a while, you feel like just having a bag of chips." I think the same goes for movies as well. I love watching well done serious dramatic movies, foreign films or artistic movies---but I enjoy a good popcorn flick as well.

The worst thing that ever happened to the comic book movies was the big studios buying the rights to the individual properties. The best thing that's happened was Marvel Studios getting created and other properties starting to revert back to Marvel (Punisher & Spiderman specifically so far....praying for X-Men to end up back in Marvel's hands at some point)

Your father's entirely right, which is why I always used to roll my eyes at people who lambasted me for watching crap like Jersey Shore. I watch enough National Geographic and Discovery Channel (the green vegetables of TV). Who cares if I want some Doritos (MTV) once in a while?

Yeah, they all exist in the same marvel universe though crossover between the X-Men story arc (which is mainly the war between mutants & humans) and the Avengers story arc (which typically deals with ridiculously powerful galactic enemies...invaders from beyond) is pretty rare.

As powerful as mutants are, most of the real heavy hitters in the marvel universe are galactic entities.

Well put.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

There is actually a bunch of cross over now. Right now there is some huge Xmen vs Avengers storyline going on. And I'm pretty sure some xmen are in the Avengers.

I think you mean Disney. ;)

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

up next:

June 8: Prometheus
June 22: Brave (I've got 2 girls, what can I say. Hoping to find a drive-in playing this while I'm down in Georgetown area)
July 6: Amazing Spiderman (3D trailer looked way better than the TV ad)
July 20: The Dark Knight Rises

Misc: Bourne Supremacy, Total Recall, MIB III

This year is honestly ridiculously awesome for movies, especially with all the crap we tolerated beforehand the past few years. And that list doesn't even include possible gems like The Expendables 2, Django Unchained, and The Hobbit later in the year amongst other releases.

I may have to brush up...probably been a decade or more since I open a comic book.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I have no interest in seeing the next incarnation of spiderman. It's following too closely to the last aborted foetuses

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Spidey looks good. Real good.
I get a little crazy with these re-boots so soon after the boot...even if Marvel is just taking it's own back...but every trailer, every shot and everything I've heard say this Spiderman is going to be Amazing.
