OT: Fanboy fight: XBox V Playstation

Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3

Oh the Wii sold a ton, no doubt. People stopped using it or didn't by games. Myself, I haven't purchased a game for my Wii in about 3 years.

Nielsen: People May Buy Wiis, But Do They Use Them?

Old info, but I doubt the numbers changed dramatically

The wii's graphics were dated the year they came out. It just looked worse with each passing year. And the motion controller was a brilliant idea, but it was a novelty that worse off within a couple of years.

The wii you has no such novelty. No one cares about it.

People buy every Nintendo system for a handful of games (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros and Mario Kart) and it is worth every penny.

And then of course they also have the best classic virtual console games.

The whole thing about being able to share your games with 10 people? that is actually true, but that only holds for one specific console after you're connected to MS's cloud service.

Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3

The big thing that I think people are missing with having to be connected every 24 hours as well as them basically licensing the game to you and you don't actually own it, is that Microsoft can basically control the life of the system. With the original Xbox they stopped hosting games on their servers to play multiplayer a few years after the 360 came out. Now, that I think is completely okay to do as you can still go back and play the single player aspect of the games. But with them requiring you to be online to access their servers to play even the single player games, that should send up a big red flag to fans. For a hardcore gamer that likes to go back and play some of their old systems, this is a big issue. As a consumer, it should be an even bigger issue. It sets a ridiculous precedent that companies are gonna try to start to get away with this type of stuff. Think of this, you buy a game for 60.00, it's on your machine to play, then after say, 8 years, we no longer support this game on our servers. You cannot access the game that you bought, not just the multiplayer but even the single player. Now, I know that a lot of people will say, "well once they stop supporting the Xbox One in 8 years time, there will be another console out to buy". If you wanted to go back and play those other games that were on the Xbox One, what do you think you'll have to do? Your more than likely gonna have to re-buy them as classics. Again, it's not just the issue of the used games and always being online. I think it's an ethical issue that fans and consumers are telling Microsoft that they shouldn't be allowed to get away with this type of business practice. It basically puts Microsoft in a position for them to already have their hands around a consumer's throat to force them to upgrade, whenever they want to.

On top of all of that. Microsoft said last night that they won't comment, when they were asked if you would be able to sell the Xbox One second hand if you wanted to. It's night and day difference between the two companies. There is absolutely no reason why Microsoft needs to do this other than them wanting more profit and to control what you can buy for their systems. They are trying to **** with the gaming industry, one that has been exactly the same way for home consoles for 30+ years and an industry that has generated enough money/profit to bring games up to where they are now.

Complete ****ing greed.

I remember saying a lot of this stuff about the 360 and backwards compatibility. You know how many times I've played an original Xbox game? I think that would be zero times. This is really a non-issue imo. If you really want to play a 2013 game 8 years from now, first of all you probably will end up being able to, and even if not, can buy it on the 2021 equivalent of Steam for like $3.

I will say as an Xbox fanboy that Microsoft absolutely got their ass kicked by Sony at E3. I do think some of this stuff has gotten blown out of proportion, though, and things will change.

That being said, the used game policy and price difference have me seriously considering a PS4. It's funny, I would have been a lot more interested in all this a year ago, but with a new computer after years of being a console anti-mmo guy, I've spent almost all my recent gaming time playing mmo's on the pc.

Yeah, on the suggestion of a bunch of FI gamers, I made the switch to PS3 and am entirely satisfied with it. Very likely, I'll go with PS4 when I buy a next gen machine later this year.

Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3

I think the primary issue isn't what microsoft has done wrong so much as what they haven't done exceedingly well. It's not more powerful, it doesn't really have any wizz-bang technology over the PS4, the game lists are comparable. If you're choosing just one, I don't see why it would be the Xbox, especially at a higher price point.

Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3

The Xbox (right now, anyway) is priced $100 more but it includes a Kinect, which is a $100-$150 add-on to the 360, so I guess that is their justification for it. PlayStation's alternative to Kinect is (from what I've heard) inferior, and must be purchased separately. With the PS4 you will have to pay for Sony's live service similar to Xbox Live. And the specs are actually quite similar. So it's going to be quite an interesting Q4. Microsoft is going to have to re-think a couple of these policies between now and then, IMO. In the end, for me, it may come down to whether Sony's new controller sucks or not.

You're welcome.

http://www.neowin.net/news/anonymous-xbox-engineer-explains-drm-and-microsofts-xbox-one-intentions

Here is a writeup from an anonymous xbox one developer at Microsoft explaining DRM and mandatory internet connection. As I mentioned before Microsofts primary goal isn't gaming. Its an all in one media center. And because of that they will probably sell a ton of xbox ones and Microsoft Glasses and tvs and cable services. But its a gaming system second. Or maybe third.

>Living room transformation. We want to own the living room. Every living room TV with an XBox on input one. It's the thing that gives the signal to your TV, everything is secondary. The future, where games, TV, internet telephony, all that shit happens magically on some huge ass screen with hand / voice gestures... That's our goal.

...

>Honestly, if you care about anything other then pure games AT ALL. Xbox 1 > PS4. If all you do is play games, and nothing else, PS4.

+1, unless one side really hits it out of the park with their exclusives, they are pretty interchangeable for me. On a related note I just got the last of us and it really is quite a fun game.

Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3

Any idea on the length of the last of us? Was thinking of picking it up i a few months used when the price drops, but if it's a longer game, I may jump on it. Heard it's suppose to be pretty awesome.

Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3

Unfortunately I can't help you there from experience, I think reviews put it anywhere from 12 to 17 hours depending on your level of exploration and how you go about the game.

Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3

Cool. One I'll wait and pick it up. Find it really hard to justify buying a game for 60.00 that I'll finish in 3-4 days.
