OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Colabello at 1B and hitting 5th, Tulo 6th
Navarro Catching

No Martin

No Beltre

cola in the lineup is the right call. he's just flat out hitting. no use in sitting a guy who has been an elite stick this year (babip or not... and there. i said it. outside of july he has topped a 300 BA in every month and a 900 ops in every month but june and july, with like a 950 ops between august and sept/oct).

meanwhile tulo still isn't hitting..

as for martin vs navarro, you lose some defensive value but at the same time - russell martin has cost them 3 runs against. directly, because of his mistakes (kept looking for snap throws early in game one, which pulled goins towards the bag and away from a routine grounder on the first two runs in g 1, and that throw in game 2). don't want to slag martin but that's just the unfortunate truth.

and i understand that smoak is the superior defender but it's kind of nuts that they haven't just ridden out the year colabello has had. he isn't great at first but it isn't like colabrello in lf.

I think Price has more value out of the pen than Stroman does, with Cecil done....and i'm legit cool with Stroman in a potential game 5.....he was a cluster**** of a 1st inning away from a shutout in the game he pitched.

Bottom line though you need to win tonight, and have Estrada on a short leash if need be, and win game 4 and have Dickey on the same leash.

stro was stellar. he had a 30 pitch first and came out in the 8th at 93.

kid's a stud.

ya, i mean it's way more interesting when each team gets 3-4 automatic outs per game, or pulls a great pitcher after 75 pitches for a mediocre bench bat because there's a runner on first and the score is 2-2.
I'm sure if Toronto was in the NL most of you would prefer that league. I don't know any NL team fans who prefer AL or vice versa.

There was this feeling prior to that though.

I do think that was a mistake by the Jays. They should have talked with MLB privately and stated they were officially voting against out of principle. It would not have changed anything for the league.

This idea though that the Jays "Stole" the Expos audience is ridiculous. No one in Montreal's business community stepped-up to help them.
The Expos never should have allowed Toronto to claim all of the west as its territory for TV but Toronto's team didn't hasten the Expos' demise. It was inevitable as they had no fans.

I'm more indifferent to Toronto's team. I don't want to win but their existence does not gall me as it does some.

I agree. But in the end, it was their decision. Expos fans can't blame others for the organization's stupidity.

I kind of liked seeing Madison Bumgarner hit a grandslam.

Is it worth seeing hundreds of potentially high scoring inning cut short, hundreds of "oh it's the pitcher, let's go get a drink" moments? , hundreds of inevitable swings and misses? and worst of all, is it worst having to have Martin, Navaro, AND Thole on a world series roster at the expense of a real hitter?

I do agree that almost having an automatic out takes some suspense/fun out of the game.

Sucks for pitchers too to be forced out early because their turn is up at bat.

I prefer the DH, but again, I do think it's silly to have it in 1 league and not the other. Baseball has some weird rules.

if Expo fans blame anyone, it's certainly not the Jays, it's the majority of owners who started a strike in 1994 (when the Expos had the best record) under the guise they wanted to rescue small market teams and then ended up with an agreement that didn't bring significant relief to small market teams like the Expos.

Double whammy of sacrificing a potentially momentum franchise changing season for very little relief.

Ironically, revenue sharing and other equalization measures have been enhance since the Expos folded.
