OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

+1

Flores had no business in the ring with Rigondeaux. I don't even feel bad for him. Clear sell job gone wrong for him. Lomachenko is the guy we want to see. We'll see if he gets ducked or the "anybody, anytime" was all for show.

As for Conor-Mayweather... well this fight is a giant waste of time. An entertaining waste of time so of course i will watch it. Mayweather should dummy Mac pretty easily. I'm tempted to throw my money in the garbage and bet on Mac just for shits if he were to get lucky.

Fight of the year coming up though. Canelo GGG is <333

I was 100% with you on this entire post until the very last line. Canelo just doesn't have the tools to deal with GGG.

So, very interesting development occurring due to social media shit talking today. Basically, Lomachenko and Rigondeaux's people have been shit talking each other on social media and apparently Lomachenko's manager offered a fight to Rigondeaux's people at 130 (Rigondeaux's last fight was at 126, but mainly because he's had a hell of a time getting people to fight him, he's a natural 122 and walks the street at about 127-128)....and Rigondeaux's manager just called their bluff..or accepted a fight, whichever this turns into.

This would be a legitimate super fight, with 2 of the top 5 pound for pound boxers on the planet going at it, and probably by the end of this year. Throw that into a bag with Ward/Kovalev going recently, and the upcoming Canelo/GGG fight and this would be one of the best 6-7 months in boxing history for quality. 6 of the top 6-7 P4P fighters on the planet, having fought against someone else in that top 6-7, within 6-7 months...**** me.

Please let this happen.

That'd be an excellent fight. I hope this isn't a bunch of bullshit time wasting like we've seen before.

AS for some good fights... tonights free UFC has been pretty good. Love seeing Hendricks get his ass whooped. This guy never makes weight. Always excuses. Highly suspicious of him since the USADA came in. He hasn't made weight, power is seemingly gone in that left.

AND the main event coming up should be a good one.

Sounds like we're going to Vegas.........

Interesting debut from Justin Gaethje. Called the fight exactly as it went down. Took some big shots from Johnson. Johnson shouldn't have brawled the way he did. Really strayed from his alleged gameplan.

I wonder who is next for Gaethje. I don't know about him surviving too many fights against elite strikers the way he takes shots. Barbosa? Maybe we see the return of Nate Diaz?

Just a reminder why Conor is going to get smacked around by Floyd.

This is what an elite boxer looks like on a hand-eye drill

This is what Conor looks like on a similar exercise

The speed and precision of an elite boxer is on an entirely different planet from Conor's. Loma is one of the few boxers on the planet who can be used as a reasonable proxy for Floyd's skill level.

The most fascinating thing about that fight is how I am still trying to figure out how Floyd can be broke.

Well you know he can't hit without breaking his hands, especially with smaller gloves, and you know that he is much smaller than Conor. You know he is a runner and hugger from the Pacquiao fight, and everyone knows that IF Conor tags him, it's lights out.

This is going to be the most disappointing fight of the century.

Mayweather is just going to run away and tie McGregor up all night.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I've read some pretty solid articles suggesting that Floyd is just using a tax deferment trick that tons of wealthy people use. When you're getting a better ROI on the money that the IRS wants, than it costs to keep the IRS off your back in penalties, you hang on to the investment until it's no longer providing enough ROI to justify the trouble and cost.

Basically, I think that Floyd is broke in the same way that 50 cent was "broke" during his recent lawsuit. They're both using rich white people tricks to protect or maximize their money, but because both are young, black, and extravagant with their spending and the media loves reporting on the ignorant black guy who went from rich to poor because of owning too many bouncy cars.

I agree with everything you're saying... except the exercises being "similar." I think they're similar in the fact that they're speed and hand-eye related. The are quite different imo. The tennis ball is more predicable. It's very fast, but predicable. The angle the ball goes out tells you the angle it's coming back. It's a more difficult version of the rubber ball and paddle. Much tougher of course... and Loma is extremely impressive in that video.

The cards are pretty much completely unpredictable. Loma might well be a lot better at both exercises, but I don't think the 2 videos tells us that.

I never have done this, but I use to box a little in my youth and from my limited knowledge of both sports i was wondering if I gave you 3 to 1 odds would you be willing to bet a grand on the outcome of this fight.
You get your bigger conor and I will take the smaller and weaker Floyd.
We can set this all up through a third party or ourselves.
Let me know if you are interested johnny.
I will also take bets from you if Floyd gets knocked down two or more in a round or other little side bets.
Let me know.

The exercises are imo, are more similar than you think. The point of both is to learn to stay tight and let your hands go at a difficult to hit target. The cards are definitely far more unpredictable (but far slower and requiring less precision to make contact with in the "right" way), but the way to succeed at both exercises is by using the same skills. Clean footwork, fast hands. Loma (for obvious reasons) crushes his by staying in stance and letting his hands do the work. Conor flops at his (also for obvious reasons) by repeatedly coming out of his stance and flailing instead of using his feet to keep his upper body as square as possible to his (unpredictable) target. If you're looking for a boxing technique breakdown between an elite boxer and a meh amateur level boxer, it's a pretty decent display. Conor has so much muscle memory built up in a certain way of moving, and striking that when a situation becomes unpredictable for him, his boxing training will break down and he'll revert to the striking style he's so familiar with. That will be very no bueno against Floyd. Very, very no bueno.

I'm not betting Conor at 3 to 1 when I already know that Floyd is probably going to win, and win the same way he beat Pacquaio.
