OT: Soccer thread

Van de Ven looking class again….been better than Romero, and he just looks completely unflappable.

this game definitely shows where we aren’t quite up to snuff tho…Sarr needs more development to be good enough to start a game like this, it’s required us to drop Maddison deeper than we want, restricting our ability to play through the middle.

…could desperately use a healthy Bentancur in for Sarr right now.

Kulusevski is too slow in my personal opinion to start a game like this.

Vicario as much as I love him, it’s facing a press like this that it really stings that we couldn’t get Raya. Likes of him and Ederson are absolute cheat codes in situations like this.

EPL announcers crack me up, I swear anytime a keeper makes a mind blowing save, the colour guy always minimizes it by knocking the shooter, haha.

Just focus on the one handed save by the keeper on a ball curling away from him into a wide open net, lol….

I can't believe forumice has a fucking Tottenham fanclub now. Long covid really must be more severe neurologically than we ever thought.

I’ve been a Tottenham fan for over 20 years now thank you very much.

my severe neurological issues long predate Covid.

have all of Saka, Maddison and Son in my FPL team, haha….last minute subbed Udogie off for Kyle Walker, which looks on point as well.

Masochism is our domain yeah. Fair point.

honestly, I’ve always looked at it as a point of pride…..who can you trust more to be there when you need em, that someone willing to stick by the Leafs for 40 years of futility through thick and thin.

loyalty is a hell of a character trait.

It's admirable, just playing with you. I'm a Lazio guy and they haven't done anything notable since the late 90s. That's more of a "home region" thing though as opposed to me just selecting the most painful team to follow by choice.

Though the fandom has admittedly fallen a bit in the last couple of years since life got busier. Used to be my #1, even over the leafs.

that’s implied when it’s Tottenham….I meant more Leafs fans tho, especially when we are all here during the Wellwood, Stajan days pouring over stats talking ourselves into the idea “we’re building something here”

yeah my grandparents immigrated from Scotland/England, so I always rooted for England in World Cups….which made me a fan of Rooney, so I liked Everton for a minute, but once he went to Man United I knew I couldn’t root for the most popular/successful team, so landed on Tottenham cause they had enough England team players I knew and that was that.

that said…..I couldn’t have picked a better club that suits

Leafs were always my first, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy EPL games more than hockey now….every league game feels like a Leafs playoff game, so they just can’t be compared.

Also just prefer the viewing experience of soccer more than anything else by a fairly wide margin.
