OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Amazing. Doesn't matter what we do we just keep winning.

And man Cano has gone from super elite to pumpkin really quickly. Relievers are annoying as hell.
it really is strange, when he came along behind Felix Bautista that first year, he was ELITE. But after Bautista got hurt and the closer job was wide open, he's been middling mediocre ever since.

Also, dont tell anyone, but Zeke is probably rooting for Boston.

Also, why are the Red Sox allowed 2 city connects? Their awesome green monster ones and these stupid fucking yellow ones.?

my gut on Bo is something like 8/240-280
He’s not getting $100M more than Adames got last offseason. And I don’t think he’ll get an AAV higher than Turner or Seager either. Bo will be a young FA so I can see him getting extra term but if the contract is $280M the term will be double digits. IMO.

it does not make any sense to give a guy like Bo a double-digit year contract. He swings at everything, doesn't walk enough, and isn't a SS defensively for much longer. That type of contact can work when you're young, as it has for Bo, if you have really strong contact skills and hit tool. But the data is pretty clear that this type of approach starts to wane when these guys hit 30. Of course there are outliers, and Bo may be having his best year ever ... if he wants the Adames contract (7/182) or even a little more money, I would sign off on that. Even though it *might* get lean towards those last couple of years, it's still a fair and reasonable (everybody take a drink) sweet spot of shared risk™.

If he's going to demand $300m over 10+ seasons, however ... thank you for your service.

Just re up your cell plan

i do think it could be something like 10/240 though, and maybe if the Jays are relatively okay at 8/240 then it could actually work to their advantage to add those extra 2 years just to keep the AAV down.

If the Jays go 7-10 the rest of the way:
  1. Yanks need to go: 11-6 to beat the Jays for the AL East
  2. Boston needs to go: 11-4 to beat the Jays for the AL East
  3. Houston needs to go: 11-5 to get the 2nd AL spot for a bye
  • The Jays are at the very least good enough to win 7 more games
  • Boston is not good enough to go 11-4 AND they have 3 games against the Tigers, another 3 against the Jays, and another against the Yanks (4th toughest schedule in the league). The Tiger games are the final 3 games in the season though so they could sit a player or two. Assuming Boston loses 1 game against each of these teams, they basically have to go perfect against the Rays and the A's. I don't see Boston 0.750 clip with this schedule.
  • NYY have the 3rd easiest schedule in the league, though they play a long road stand. After this Tiger game tonight, they have 3 at Boston, 4 at Baltimore, 3 at Minny, before coming back home for the final 6. Assuming they win 5 of the final 6 against the White Sox and Baltimore at home, that gives them room to lose 5 of the 10 on this road trip. I don't think they are good enough but it's doable.
    • also Boston and Yankees playing against each others, one of them will suffer at least. I'll cheer for Boston in that series.
  • Houston's schedule is relatively easy as well with games against the A's, the Angels, the Braves, etc. Can they go 11-5 after going 4-6 the last 10? sure but highly unlikely.

and all of that is assuming the Jays have an awful stretch of winning just 7 games. Surely we are better than that and none of these teams are good enough to be overly scared about.
I'm going to stop tracking Boston and Houston.

The Jays win just one game against each of their next opponents, except for the O's tomorrow, (4-10 record) means Boston needs to go 10-3 with a tough schedule.

Houston needs to go 10-4.

Neither is happening.

Only threat is NYY. In this scenario 8-6 puts them above us. Easy schedule. They can definitely play better than that. Which means the Jays need to play better than that.

Play .500 with 7-7 record the rest of the way and the Yanks need to go 11-3 for the East.

Boston's only 2gms up on the red hot Rangers for the last playoffs spot now (tied with HOU and SEA).

Fuck Boston so much.

I think we see the SoS comps and think we have a tough sked left - but we don't. BOS is in a tailspin and they're the only .500+ team left on our sked.

I see TB, and KC, I get scared as a Jays fan regardless of records. But you are right, SOS doesn't tell the real story.
