2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Meh. She’s suing Pablo Torre and it’s part of the evidence for the case. There will tons of these. I cover the program and I just ignore anything with her name on it. She bores me.

If they could concentrate on the massive recruiting class they signed today instead of all this TMZ Crap, they’d be ok.
You act like everybody else is dealing with this "TMZ crap" and I assure you that's not the case. It's news, and it should be covered as such. And it's 100% an issue that the coach's situationship is this chaotic.

Also, that FOIAball guy is a hoot. I learned from him that most power conference programs spend around $10,000 per home game on balloons. Yup. Balloons. Washington apparently has a real thing for them and sometimes bumps their gameday spending up to $15K.

I know exactly what it is….i do it for a living. I don’t just read about it for shits and giggles. But thanks for educating me.

Wasn't trying to educate you, but WAS trying to cut off your diminishing something that actually matters to a lot of Carolina fans I know.

And look, I'm not trying to be snippy here but that crapfest in Chapel Hill ABSOLUTELY should be documented to the degree possible because that whole mess is a grift on a scale we've rarely seen in these parts. With any luck, somebody somewhere learns a lesson.

Well, there was the 30 year Dean's Myth eligibility scam that was swept under the rug. Damned bumpy rugs over there.

Funny coming from State fans who’s ‘legendary’ coach got the likes of Chris Washburn and Charles Shackleford enrolled…among many many others. I mean one of them admitted that they were illiterate and couldn’t read when they got into nc state.

You shouldn’t cast stones when your school is just as guilty as every other school in the country. I know for a fact that Doeren has gotten tons of football players that can barely spell their name enrolled. I know this because Two of the dummies are related to me and only got through high school because they can play football. Yet somehow they easily got into nc state and played 3 years. Neither of them went to class more than once a week and are still two big dummies. By the way, they were slipped cash too. Shocking, I know. 🙄

I’m not a Carolina fan, but you State fans are something else. You quickly forget how many times the ncaa has come down on you. Selling shoes and tickets, enrolling illiterate high school students, paying basketball players before it was legal. I mean, that happened recently but no one ever mentions that. Interesting lol. You do the EXACT same thing you cry about Carolina. You guys worry more about what is going on in Chapel Hill than what happens with your own mediocre sports teams.

Your rivalry is awesome. Its always fun when two schools don’t like each other. But don’t be a hypocrite and cry about UNC cheating when the school you support has been busted themselves.

Luckily we can all agree that the Canes are awesome! 🤣

I'm NOT in this for the rivalry ... I'm in this for the epic sham being perpetrated on one of the flagship institutions of my state's university system. A system that my tax dollars help pay for. And I've NEVER shied away from recognizing the sins of my own alma mater, unlike most. Hypocrite my hairy white backside. Eff that noise.

I wasnt replying to you. I was replying to the Dean Smith comment. I should have quoted him

I don’t disagree with you but alot of it is blown out of proportion. As someone that covers the program and other local ACC teams the last decade, I see and hearthings all the time that are never reported. The Jordon stuff and my tmz comment was made because it is literally on tmz at least once a week. They talk about UNC football and Jordon Hudson on their 1130 TV show at least once a week. It’s hilarious.

Anyway, I don’t really care either way.

He ain't wrong about Dean Smith, for the record. He's just being too selective, because those were sleazy, sleazy days. Although not as sleazy as the Frank McGuire/Everett Case "glory days." All that stuff is the main reason I'm such a proponent of classifying the players as employees and giving them pay and benefits. Nobody's really looking out for those guys' actual interests even now. Even the guys that are getting paid are functioning in a system that exposes them to all manner of shady agents, lawyers and other influences while still severely limiting their actual academic opportunities.

The point is, everyone did it, even precious N.C. state. Quit being selective because it’s UNC. Dook cheated, freaking Stanford cheated, Notre Dame paid and admitted the running back in my high school that could barely speak let alone write a coherent sentence.

It’s like a drug dealer calling out another drug dealer. If your program was squeaky clean then sure, you can scream all you want. But alas, State was nowhere near clean…just like 150 other schools across the country.

For the record, I'm NOT being selective. If you'll note in that post I referenced bad deeds in both UNC and State's basketball program. If you'd prefer I can get into virtually every other school in the southeast, but it kinda felt like overkill. I'm also not terribly concerned about what most people call cheating in athletics, although I wish we could find some rules and follow them so there's a literal level playing field. I am however VERY concerned about the integrity of the UNC System and its member schools (not specifically or exclusively their athletics programs) because that's how we supposedly provide access to higher education for the young people of my state, for which we the people pay dearly. I'm not comfortable with an "everybody sucks, why bother" approach to public higher education in North Carolina. If that bothers somebody, tough crap.

Again. I was not talking about you. Good grief. I guess my replies are hard to follow since I’m replying to two different people. My reply about being selective was was referring back to my original reply to the dude texting about Dean Smith, recruiting violations. I’m just gonna stop replying. It’s not that freaking important

Look ... it doesn't matter

I just found out that Steve Cropper died yesterday, so I'm gonna need a couple days to get right.

If anybody wants to spend some time with Cropper in context, the Stax documentary on HBO Max is excellent. But hey, even if all somebody knows him from is the stupid Blues Brothers movie, he's still a got danged legend.

The Blues Brothers movie was great, if for no other reason than reuniting Willie Hall, Duck Dunn and Cropper.

I think the athletic departments in any major university are all willing to cheat or steal or lie etc. in order to win. The “set of rules” were deemed illegal but the current anything goes approach is hardly better. Bottom line. The athletes are now getting paid so they’re professionals and the teams have GMs so they’re pretty much not connected to the school except for logos and geography. The idea that they are student athletes is a joke and the sooner we stop pretending they are the sooner we can define the major NCAA sports as a developmental league for the NFL and NBA. At that point we can all quit feeling any ownership for the team that wears your schools colors. Then we will realize nobody cares about any pro teams other than the top level other than local interests (like the Durham Bulls) and league can fold and stop taking out collective time.

I posted this in a completely different forum recently... when I was in high school, a DJ at a local radio station (Dayton, OH) used to read the day's lunch menus for the area's school systems around 7:30 every morning, with Green Onions as background music. It was hilarious in an understated way, and I still can't hear Green Onions without flashing back to those rides to school.

That's a load of shit. Washburn and Shack left on fairly poor terms, correct? No fake class fake degrees for them. And Dean had wood for both of them.
I could go on, but it's pointless.

I was a deejay at a non-commercial college FM radio station in the mid-70's.....in Memphis, so this music flowed through my musical DNA.
