2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

I wasn’t aware they were still around. We jokingly called it the “Medicare Cafe” because of all the retirees and now I’m approaching that demographic 🫣🤣

I started Medicare yesterday, so I guess that I'm officially old.

K & W was my grandfather's favorite place on earth to eat. He could get his grub on for cheap & he loved that place. I heard that higher costs are what brought it down. Covid couldn't have helped. Too bad.

Loved walking in there and getting the chop steak.
Those ladies would belt out “chop steak with” to signify I wanted the mash potatoes and gravy.
Damn I miss the one in chapel hill. So many vists there.
 
Yeah, I'd just get sheet cake because it was always decent and didn't get weird if you got it on your first (and only) trip through the line.
 
My wife's cafeteria staple was the vegetable plate. Green beans, collards, black eyed peas, mashed taters (no gravy).
 
My go to was the chicken San Francisco. For some dumb reason, sometimes I would choose the baked spaghetti. Maybe, just maybe *this* time, it would actually taste as good as it looked.
 
I remember wondering exactly when the jello there was made, because it looked damn near like plastic & might have been Korean War surplus. I was always a sucker for the yeast rolls, served hot & steaming. My youngest brother worked there for a time. I'm not sure where they got some of the help? I suppose that some questions aren't worth answering.

Well, the whole restaurant industry is notorious for employing pretty much any willing participant ... for good reason. Under-age, over-age, out on bail, just outta jail, whatever ... show up on time and you're good to go.

I worked at the Press Box in Falls Village my last 2 years in h/s, mostly as a short order, grill cook. I learned how to flip things in an omlette pan from a pimp who was the head "chef" and always called himself "a ladies man" and hated it when I said "No, you're a pimp"; our boss was a crazy old Greek who loved to punch me in my forearms because that's what Rocky Graziano did and thought architects and wannbe architects were all nuts; we had a husband/wife couple who were former CT highway patrol 'persons'; a pair of black brothers (Dwayne and Dwight) in h/s who I regularly bought 40 oncers for because I was almost never carded anywhere; and another h/s friend of mine who got so fed up w/ the pimp one night that he launched a beer pitcher into the back of his head. Hate that I missed that. I'm sure all here know in 1980 that was not a plastic pitcher!
Oh, and a really hot waitress named Lisa.

Good to know because I need a new full-time job. I quit my government job recently after 16 years. Maybe I can go flip burgers

My brother, if you find a sufficiently greasy spoon then ANYONE can flip burgers ... after they pay penance by washing dishes for awhile. When I worked at Mitch's back in college, Mitch told me that he started everyone in the back washing dishes just so they could prove that they'd show up every day and be willing to suffer a bit. He had me tending bar during lunch rush two days later ... lol.
 
Meh. She’s suing Pablo Torre and it’s part of the evidence for the case. There will tons of these. I cover the program and I just ignore anything with her name on it. She bores me.

If they could concentrate on the massive recruiting class they signed today instead of all this TMZ Crap, they’d be ok.
