The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I imagine they probably intend for Ersson to just be the Marlies backup if they can't flip him for a pick or something.

And yeah, there's so much cap room now that they probably couldn't reasonably fill in free agency. They must be looking at some more expensive players whose teams want to ditch, and who we think have upside. I keep thinking Vancouver. Petterson with that crazy contract - if we believe we can get him to rebound, and get stuff to take it on, whether with or without retention, maybe that's a play. I also think Debrusk might be someone they might want to move on from.

Damn, the Canucks are a disaster. Those are two of their top three best forwards, and they had an epic tank only to have us swoop in and steal the first overall. It must be pretty painful to be a fan over there.

He probably just wont be offered a contract

My buddy is a Pro Scout in the Metro division and had this to say:

Played a lot of Drysdale and was better without him. Had really good metrics with Seeler

Benoit is a plug who is a great example of luck. One super lucky year followed by a hard crash back to earth

Leafs made a good deal. Gave up nothing, cleared space, and have an outside chance of Andrae being a servicable second pairing D.

Might be, his rights could be flipped in another deal too. Most orgs wouldn't turn up their nose at a goalie who can give them NHL reps if the Leafs were giving him away. He's not good, obviously, but being cheap, 26 and able to put up a .885 is viable enough as a 3rd goalie to a bunch of organizations. A bunch of playoff teams rostered goalies that bad this year.

Would your buddy be open to being managed by a very successful fast-food entrepreneur?

I wonder if the Leafs were poking around Andrae and say Spence, but determined Spence would cost much more in a trade and contract
Aren't you a Blackhawks fan?

Anyway, ones a LHPMD and ones a RHPMD.

And building depth is good over a long season.

Plus, don't they have cap room?

I have Ersson in a couple of dynasty leagues and was hoping he would become a solid starter. He hasn't been good obviously but there's enough intrigue here to be worth a shot by somebody. I can see him just being someone the Flyers needed to move out when bringing in Woll, but I wouldn't mind giving him a look on the Marlies, esp. if one of the 2 guys (Hilde or AA) will be with the big club next year.
