2019 Carolina Hurricanes Off Season Thread

That review was 12 years ago, but I want to go back in time to 1984 when these things still were made with yummy ingredients such as animal lard and have that taste test done. These products are still around but without all of the really nasty ingredients (that made them more yummy but basically destroyed your arteries).

I saw some in a Target store in South Carolina a few weeks ago. Only took notice because I haven't seen 'em in years. Haven't eaten any in decades.

Hurry up and get here hockey season before the discussion descends to Funyuns.

Yup. Just waitin' on Williams and training camp. Nothing else to see here really, so we wander ... in this case to the snack food aisle at the supermarket. At least we're not banging on about Old Tuffy beer or freshmen Quarterbacks like some other local message boards I could mention ...

Have you tried Old Tuffy yet? I've not been anywhere to see it or try it since it's been released-- hear it's a fairly generic lager.

I have. I'd call it a fairly high quality lager, but it's still just a lager. For non-beer people, lager is basic, cheap, mass market beer for the the most part. Even a quality effort ends up tasting like a good batch of Budweiser or something. I mean, that's fine ... but coming from New Belgium, I can see the disappointment. Bottom line ... it's a beer to pound at outdoor sporting events and tailgates, not one to savor with a good meal. Which means it isn't for me, since that's pretty much the only time I drink beer. The can design, however, is bangin'.

Boss gave me a can and said it was like bud. Which sucks as we are both beer drinkers and Pack grads. Had hoped to quaff a few at our tailgates this fall.

I beg to differ on your lager assessment and I generally prefer ales. Usually have to pick an import for a good one though.
 
Fine ... beer people argue about everything anyway. It's one of the worst things about deciding to go back to having the odd beer with dinner. I didn't miss the arguing. I'm generally a pale ale guy anyway, and since I don't have many I generally stick to the good, local crafty stuff.
 
I will be having a Tuffy tonight-- beer and salad-- beer for me and salad for me. Going to give it a shot. And yes, beer drinkers tend to strongly discuss beers in the same manner as whisky is strongly discussed and evaluated.

My next younger brother (who got is under grad at ASU) sent me This today. It will be interesting to see what other schools produce and which brew houses they pair up with.

Personally, I haven't developed a taste for many craft beers yet. They're either too watery, too weird, or too flat to me. The Rogue Dead Guy Ale is pretty tasty & suits my taste. Would never turn down a Red Seal Ale either. l also found a local source for San Miguel pilsner from the Philippines, which is what I drink on that side of the world.
To each his own. That's what keeps brewers in business & cheers to them! 🍻
