I like both the Spoaty Oaty and Long Leaf Pine. I even like the AMB blonde.

I did have a Tuffy tonight. It's the kind of beer you can drink with ease working in the yard or at a tailgate. Not a high ABV, but better than any Bud. I actually had lacing in my glass. It was easy, light and good for summer. No real heft to it, but very easy to drink--and very approachable for anyone who is not a craft beer drinker.
 
Rogue Dead Guy...doesn’t suck. Before the craft explosion around here, that was my go to at Sawmill Taproom.

I try to drink local as much as possible. That doesn’t include New Belgium or Sierra Nevada, even though they have breweries here and are technically classified as craft breweries. It also doesn’t include Wicked Weed, who sold out to AB InBev a few years ago. I’m mostly an IPA guy, but I’ve been drinking a lot of cider this summer. But the rotation in my refrigerator is pretty much Relaxession and Kolsch from White St., Trophy Wife from Trophy and Hoppy-Ki-Yay from Lonerider.

Trophy is a 2 minute slow walk from the office. Place has more froo froo beers than France. But the pizza is good.
 
I'm a fan of Trophy Wife and Cloud Surfer. Enjoy both and those could easily be my go to beers. also like Hoppy-Ki-Yay as well. I stopped drinking Wicked Weed on any regular basis when they sold to AB InBev, although they still create good stouts and porters and I will sometimes pick one up. I came across Homegrown from Mother earth Brewing out of Kinston and really like it-- it's beer and tomato. I used to drink "red eye" quite often years ago and this is quite similar, but a perfect one for the summer.

White Street in WF is about to get some competition as Norse Brewing is coming to town. I will drink some of the beers at White Street, but not always a "go to."
 
The term 'session IPA' just makes me want to hit something. It goes w/ the old George Carlin oxymoron jokes about 'civil war' and 'military intelligence'.
 
Yeah ... there are IPAs that are tolerable, some are even good, but those ones with the huge hop hit make me want to smack somebody.

I like a couple of Wicked Weed's products too much to bail on them entirely. Their Lunatic Blonde Belgian Pale is a go-to and their seasonal stouts are generally great. Green Man ESB is a fave as well, and my cousin designed the logo for the brewery. The can that's always in my fridge though, is Catawba's White Zombie. They call it a white ale, but it's a whitbeir ... it's just beautiful with most food.
 
I honestly don't think half the brewers out there have a clue what they are doing. There's some nasty stuff out there masquerading as beer. Compass Rose is always the first that comes to mind. Everything they brew is disgusting. No beer should taste like Pine Sol.

IPAs are played out. And most are not even drinkable. I'd rather have a white, wheat, lager, etc.

Im also over going to the store and finding that everything is $3 or more a CAN! 4 pack of cans....$16. They can keep it.
 
I just had a very nice IPA from Bombshell, Head Over Hops. It’s 78 IBUs, which is about my limit, but it also had some maltiness to it.

I bought a build your own 6 pack at Lowe’s a week or so ago. It’s a good way to try stuff without committing to a 6 pack. I grabbed a Double Dog Double IPA from Flying Dog in Maryland. It’s 85 IBUs so that’s a little high, but 12% ABV. Yikes!
 
It's like everything else. There are some really good ones local brewers and some not so good. And I find some people really enjoy some of the breweries I don't like ... which why I started this tangent with a comment about arguing about beer. Seems like that's all some folks really want to do. I mean, I've never have anything from Trophy that I actually like but if somebody else likes their stuff, fine. Same with Big Boss and I know a LOT of people of like their brews. Like what you like. It's fine.

Food Lion also does the build your own 6 Pack thing and some of the nicer Food Lions actually stock a fair amount of decent stuff.

Andy, have you had the Foothills Jade and Double? I can drink way too many of them. In fact, I have.

I’ve never had Double, I’ve had Jade. I like Hoppyum better and it was available at the booth right outside my old seats in 326. If I had time before a game, I’d head down to the Deep River bar and grab a Mango Tango Foxtrot IPA and my wife would get Twisted River Wit.

Blue Moon has a mango wheat that doesn’t suck, it’s not bad after an afternoon of yard work. I like most of Goose Island’s stuff too, their IPA isn’t bad.
 
Dragging this back to hockey, Mark Armstrong from WTVD tweeted over the weekend that the Canes have reached out to Brian Boyle as a contingency in case Williams decides to retire. I’m not sure how seriously to take it; he’s never broken Canes news before. I also don’t think it’s particularly necessary. He’s 34, so we don’t have the contract flexibility that we do with Williams. While he’s a respected voice around the league, I don’t think he can come in and immediately slap a letter on his jersey.

My read on Armstrong's info on Boyle is that the Canes are establishing a contingency and nothing more should be read into it. Not that this would stop the internet from freaking out. Also, Armstrong is more plugged in than the meathead image he normally projects would lead you to believe. He doesn't bother to break much news (not his job), but when he does it's generally accurate enough.

Boyle ... good guy, good leader. He's big and old and was never fast, but he's whip smart and remains a decent defensive center. He'd be the kind of guy you'd sign to support the younger guys we have at center, not as an 82 game player at this point. That said, he was a pretty good fit as a PK guy and 4th line grunt for the Devils the last two years.
 
I dont mind Boyle in regards to the fact that he is an established veteran guy with leadership qualities that also still can police things occasionally with the odd fight to stick up for his team. Having said that, he is pretty slow and long in the tooth, maybe bring him in on a PTO and see if he has much left in the tank.
 
I would have liked Brian Boyle here 3 or 4 seasons ago. I appreciate him being a veteran leader type, but I don't see a reason why we need to add another player to the roster if Williams retires. Even if Necas fails to crack the top 12, we shouldn't have any issues putting together a pretty darn good top 12 and have a couple of extra guys who should be able to contribute if injuries crop up. If we hadn't traded for Haula then yeah, there could be a need for a Brian Boyle 3rd line center type. But I think the roster is set for now with or without Justin Williams.

“We have not reached out and won’t”

So that’s the end of that.
