2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

conspiracy fans say Jets threw the game yesterday. It was just a blitz that did not work and they had 1 on1 coverage on a fast guy with a rookie CB and a good throw. the main screwup was the call for the blitz which is very uncommon that late in the game. Most of the time they only rush 3 or 4 guys and the rest don't let anyone get behind them.

How does Gregg Williams keep getting hired as a defensive coordinator?

Same reason inexperienced children of famous head coaches keep getting hired for college jobs. Football people are almost as dumb as hockey people.

Lawrence won’t be a bust.

The Jets will need to give him a solid o line though and that seems to be a big problem for them.

I saw the headline over the weekend about Beamer ball coming to South Carolina and couldn’t believe Frank was still working. But it’s his son, who has been Lincoln Riley’s top offensive assistant at Oklahoma.

Yup ... but since Riley still called his own plays and at least retains executive level control of his offense, the Cocks hired an offensive coordinator who doesn't even run his own offense. Congrats on that.

Apparently Louisville's Scott Satterfield also interviewed for the SC football job. The only reason you go to coach at SC is for the money. They will never be able to make any real noise in the SEC.

colleges normally don't hire kids of coaches , they hire former players. Some work out well like Roy Williams and Gary Williams.

then you have plenty of former player busts like Lowe, Robinson,Doherty,Bunting, etc, Way more busts than winners.

If Duke and UNC hire the best BB coaches they can they should be OK. If they insist on hiring an alum they will probably get 2 busts. UCLA hired 5 alums after Wooden and all of them were busts.

I'd not call Les a bust. He did well first 2 years w/ V's guys, then had to deal w/ the BS BOG restrictions for the rest of his time.

Les was 100% NOT a "bust" and the only reason anyone would call him is that is that they either don't know the first thing about the circumstances of his tenure at State ... or they're just being "provocative" for whatever reason. I'll leave that judgement call up to you. Les was a good basketball coach, a good AD, and is a truly class human being.
