2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

While I thought that Trophy's pizza was pretty good, I can't get onboard with it being great. However, I hear that they have a bangin Detroit style pizza and I do want to try that. I enjoy most of their beers as well. Y'all are strange around here.
 
Oh, a btw, this Grab Bag Thread is dated 2019-20. Maybe we should, you know, start a new one before we end up killing the database with this 10-miles long thread?

I'll edit the thread title, but the Leafs board has a Blue Jays thread that's over 4,500 pages so I'm not that worried about the database.
 
On pizza ... I've decided that everybody just likes what they like and that there's so much diversity even within established styles that sometimes it's like words don't even mean things. NY Style can mean virtually anything, as can Neopolitan ... at least in America.

Just don’t go calling Chicago style “pizza”. It’s a casserole.

As a native New Yorker, you will not be surprised where my pizza preferences lie.

That said, I have this at the famous Pequod's in Chicago two summers ago and it was outstanding!

Nah, it's a pizza. I'm not a fan of it myself, and I'm with Tryamw on this one, the thin crust tavern pizza cut up party style is the best Chicagoland pizza one can find. That being said, I have to confess that the Rosati's in Morrisville actually has a decent deep dish style that I've had.

I'm going to let everyone in a secret:
The best of all Chicago foods is the pizza puff. It can usually be found at a hot dog joint in the Sides or Other section on the menu board behind the counter. So damn good and so damn disgusting. Me during eating one: damn, this is so great. Me after eating one: oh god, I'm going to have a heart attack. The runner up for best Chicago foods is the Maxwell Street Polish.
 
My favorite pizza place in Cary is Pizzeria Veritas and they're around the $20 mark for a pie, but damn, it's really good. J&S Pizza and Alex & Teresa are quite good as well. If you are into Italian in general, Alex & Teresa are from Italy and all of their food is outstanding.

However, the best pizza in the Triangle is, and will always be, Frank's on New Bern and King Charles in Raleigh, right next to the Alamo. It opened in the early '70s and the decor hasn't changed at all since then. I love their pizza. Nothing fancy, just really good. I heard that his brother opened his own place farther east down New Bern, but haven't tried it yet. I hear it's good.

Frank's is good ... or at least, I like it. The pizza at Alamo ain't bad, for that matter.

I like Frank and that his place is a quarter mile up the road, but I'll go with Piccola Italia. That Frank is the only person around who understands a garlic pizza.
Frank up the street needs to bake all his pies longer and use some fresh garlic.
 
Piccola Italia in Camero...errr!...Village District (the new name still cracks me up with its unintentionally hilariously over the top genericness), right? That place is good too. A Raleigh institution. My wife used to eat lunch there all the time when she worked at that library. In fact, we may even had a NYE dinner or two there before we headed out on the town. I know, we're so fancy.
