2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

The IIHF has cancelled the U-18 world championships, scheduled for Plymouth and Ann Arbor, Michigan next month. Trump’s European travel ban made it academic but they did it anyway. Rene Fasel told Bob McKenzie that it didn’t look good for the senior men’s World Championship scheduled for May in Switzerland. The Swiss government is likely to extend their ban on large gatherings.

Kansas joins Duke and says no to the NCAA tourney so that's probably final nail in the coffin. It will be cancelled Sat at the latest.

And the ACC just said no NCAA events for them as well. That is really the final nail.

A company in a state back up north had to break up a meeting reviewing our contract with them yesterday when it was discovered one of their employees has The Virus.

NCAA championships cancelled. No March Madness. No Frozen Four.

So, what’s everyone watching on HBO and Netflix?

The Outsider on HBO is good, 10 episode mini series from Steven King book
Also McMillions on HBO is a good documentary
If you haven't seen it Game of Thrones is very good on HBO

I have a lot of books I can read so I will work on them.

The first few episodes of Hunters were pretty engaging, then it completely jumped the shark. Back to Life (Showtime?) was different in a way that the English specialize in, but I liked it.

ESPN might end up having to run sports movies. Bull Durham, Rudy, Tin Cup, etc. Or else just have more dumb shows with people yelling at each other

How are all large gatherings cancelled, and yet NC schools are open? Schools are the 3rd largest incubators of disease in America behind hospitals and nursing homes. Explain why they havent closed immediately? 2,000 plus kids in most schools around here....

I assume Disney world in FL doing the same?
Not yet. They are considering it, depending on a meeting with the State infectious disease task force. Could be soon, or they could hold off waiting for some agreed break point. We should know more tomorrow.

Other states (Ohio and Maryland) have closed schools statewide. WCPSS is getting an earful on their web page about not closing schools. My oldest daughter is a Senior this year, so this is all completely devastating to her. Its only a matter of time before they cancel the Senior prom....graduation on June 9th is likely suspect too.

Should they close the schools for 3 weeks (2 weeks plus spring break seems the popular choice by other states) that won't impact me negatively as my kids are both in high school. And we have the capabilities to do any remote work/virtual learning if necessary. But as we all know, not everyone has virtual learning capabilities and for some having their kids home for 2 unplanned weeks is difficult. But at this point all of the teachers and school employees and parents of a WCPSS students are at risk as the students congregate in the schools. While the vast majority of students themselves might not be at risk of death, there are too many adults who interact with those kids on a daily basis who are. I can't see how they don't shut down Wake County schools for at least through spring break, starting next week (possibly even tomorrow).
