2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

saw cougars for $2 at Reynolds against the Memphis Tams. I noticed only 2 ABA teams did not move or change names, Pacers and Kentucky colonels . Most teams were in 2 or more cities.

For NCAA I would think we have as many hotel rooms as Indy. Their metro size is just a small amount bigger than here.

Home of the late, not so great Raleigh Bullfrogs of the Global League. The ABA Carolina Cougars played some of their games in Dorton for a portion of their time on earth as well. Wonder why a pro team that actively played in four arenas in three cities had trouble setting down roots? Weird, right? The Cougars played in the Charlotte Coliseum (when it was rat infested), the Greensboro Coliseum, Dorton and Reynolds ... sometimes during the same season's schedule. It was beyond stupid. The games were fun though, and tickets were dirt cheap. My Dad and I used to enjoy watching leisure suited Larry Brown coach Jumping Jo Caldwell, Billy Cunningham and Mack Calvin a couple of times a year.

Sorry ... memory lane. Ignore me.
I used to watch the Viriginia Squires in Hampton Colisuem and the Norfolk Scope with my dad. Dr. J, Charlie Scott, and more.....For a young kid, watching Dr. J warmup alone was amazing

Dorton was to be sloped glass walls until architect died and nervous engineers added all those columns.

Given that they leaked like sieves in even mild breezes even with the more traditional installation, maybe they were right to be nervous? I've seen those original drawings and I'm 90% sure you couldn;t make that function worth a dang even with 2020's window/glazing technology

Sure was a fun place to watch hockey though. When the place was packed and rocking, it was hard to beat fun entertainment...even when the fog rolled in.

My Dad was a New York Nets season ticket holder during the ABA years, featuring greats like Dr. J, Rick Barry, and Super John Williamson. I saw many games against the Carolina Cougars and the Virginia Squires (and the Dallas Chapparals, San Antonio Spurs, Spirits of St. Louis, Indiana Pacers, Denver Rockets, Memphis Tams, San Diego Conquistadors, and too many others I can't remember!)

They came up with the TAMS name from:

T ennessee. A rkansas M ississippi

Cap Center in DC (which was torn down) and Calgary Saddledome are much larger versions of Dorton. FedEx field is close to where Cap Center was.

Pretty certain there was one in Germany that developed a problem and collapsed a decade or two ago.
For those who might not know, those sloped arches are held in place by cables in the roof, hence don't need the stinking columns.
Used to be a famed house in West Raleigh built along the same lines, but it fell into disrepair and was torn down for a non-descript, POS McMansion. Raleigh developers are killing off many cool modernist buildings.

When you're the expected #1 overall pick, you are going to a crappy team. However, this crappy Jags team currently has $80 million in cap space and five truckloads of draft picks this year. I think Mr Future Legendary Bust is walking into a pretty situation. Depending on who their new coach will be, I guess.

Clemson backup QB is very good so they will just reload like they always do .

You can avoid a crappy team if you throw a tantrum and demand a trade like Eric Lindros and Eli Manning

Sometimes it's warranted, though. Could you imagine if you were the #1 overall and the Houston Texans owned that pick? They're already $16 million over the cap limit and no draft picks. There's no way that they will be good again for years. Would you want to walk into that situation? Of course not.

That's the draft and cap system the NFL,NHL.NBA has . If they don't like , tough. Go to the CFL . :)

BTW if a business has bad news they should put it out today nobody will pay attention.

ECU is cutting mens and womens swimming and diving and also tennis for both genders.

ECU is reinstating women’s swimming and diving an women’s tennis. Cutting women’s sports on a campus that’s 57% female is a good way to open yourself up to a Title IX lawsuit.
