2020 NHL Entry Draft

After watching that video, I take that technically, the Habs still have a 3% chance at the 1st overall pick.

The 7 clubs that don't qualify and the 8 ELIMINATED clubs from the qualify round have a chance at the top 3 picks.

If any one of the 8 qualifying round clubs wins Pick 1/2/3 the NHL will hold another lottery before the conference 1/4 final to determine who gets that pick

All 8 ELIMINATED clubs go into another lottery with a 12.5% (1/8) Chance to get/win the pick 1/2/3 pick that won in the initial lottery.

Here is a scenario for the NHL...

They hold a draft lottery Friday. A qualifying round team wins the 1st overall pick.

Why would a bubble team even try to win a round and lose out on a 1/8 chance at Alexis Lafrenière?!

Probably doesn't matter because...
A) Players dont tank, management does
B) The NHL fixes the draft anyway

So lets say the Habs win the lottery tonight and Detroit and Ottawa get picks 2 and 3

If we beat Pittsburgh our pick goes back into a relottery ?

What happens if this season gets cancelled ?

If a qualifying round team wins the lottery, all eliminated teams go into a draw at the end of the qualifying round with an equal 12.5% chance of winning that pick(s).

The only time that the Habs pick remains their own is if: 1 of the 7 eliminated teams win the 1/2/3 picks AND the Habs get eliminated by Pittsburgh.

@TSNBobMcKenzie

If none of the 8 alpha-designated unknown teams (those which lose the 2020 play-in qualifier) win a top-three overall pick, Bill Daly’s countdown/flipping of cards will start at No. 7. If one of the 8 unknown teams gets a top-three pick, the countdown/flip starts at 8.

Thats a fuked up system , I would make sure half the team get injured in camp , competing makes no sense

Its like winning lottomax tonight and waiting 6 weeks if you can retire

I dont recall many drafts where all top 3 picks came from the 7 weakest teams

It is possible but unlikely.

Besides.... the NHL fixes who wins.

They saved the Penguins franchise 2X with that model.

I will agree with Pens being rigged 100% , Mario was owed too much money and needed a lifeline

The rest I doubt , I dont think the NHL had Edmonton high on the CMD sweepstakes or other number 1 picks

Mathews was a no brainer to rig in Zona`s favour

As long as Lafrenière doesn't end up in a southern US market like Anaheim/LA/Florida, I'll be happy.

He's going to Detroit, we all know it.

Better not be Ottawa.

That kid should be a Hab but nope, never bad enough, never good enough.
