His numbers have gone down each of the last 3 years from 54 to 47 to 43 to only 5 points this year with no goals.

The Kraken traded Mason Marchment to Columbus for a 2026 4th rounder and a 2027 2nd rounder.

The Blue Jackets already employ the toughest customer in the league in Olivier so interestingly they add another contract like Marchment who plays a pretty physical game and can drop the mitts at will. Dandy Don needs a starter in net!

Even if he is not producing, Matthews should at least be fielding the hard questions from the media. That is part of the captain's job, but he seems to be AWOL when it comes time to be the face of the team and deal with the media.

The coach can deflect blame from the team (or throw them under the bus like Berube just did), but ultimately the captain of the team is supposed to be ready to stand there and field the shots from the media. Matthews seems to want to just be an "on ice captain". Sounds like they could use some real locker room leadership.
34 for me was never wired to be fit to be the captain, he doesn’t seem long for that job and frankly I can see him moved out, he doesn’t want to stay in Toronto on his next contract, rebuild that team and trade Matthews while you can.

Danault has rapidly turned into Jordan Staal in terms of game impact. Still potent defensively, but his offense is basically gone. At a $5.5 million Cap hit, that's an issue for the Kings moving forward as he doesn't add as much value on a team that's defensively well structured up and down the lineup. They need offense from a player with that big a paycheck. Montreal is a better fit. They BADLY need a defensive center with enough oomph to check top lines. Dach was supposed to grow into that role but can't stay healthy. They score the puck just fine, but need to bump up the D ... especially down the middle. I like that move for them, and once again applaud the logic of that front office.

Marchment was a terrible fit in Seattle, so good on him for getting free of that roster. And even though he never really took that next step production-wise, he's a mobile, snarly middle 6 guy who pitches in some goals. Good fit for what Waddell has been collecting in Columbus, where his aggression will be appreciated instead of reigned in.

The Slugs also hired Marc Bergevin as Associate GM. And Flynn will be an assistant GM, so it was a lateral move from Columbus.

Let me get this straight ... after giving Kevyn Adams basically no budget for qualified support staff for YEARS, the Pegulas not only bring in his replacement in waiting and then ash-can him during the season, they also turn around and find enough money to fill out Jarmo's staff with experienced AGMs? Sure, Buffalo ... whatever.

Yeah, I haven't dug into this other than to skim the PHPA's statement, the league sounds like they're OK playing the heavy here. That's probably not good news.

And that man subsequently became a GM ... in case anyone forgets and starts to think that GMs in the NHL are somehow smart by benefit of position. The majority of them are idiots.

For anyone still on Twitter who needs a palate cleanse after last night’s debacle, Darren Dreger has started his annual reposting of outdoor rinks.
