2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Amazing to me how there continues to be a market for a player as limited as Soucy. And it’s not like he’s making chump change either. He carries a $3.25 mil cap hit.

They wouldn’t hold a hearing for a fine. But he has no disciplinary history, not even a fine, so this will probably be a 1 game suspension. He’s never had more than 31 PIM in a season and averages 27 per 82 games. So that hit is either out of character or he’s never been caught before.
One of the major obstacles to effective supplemental punishment is this insane notion that a player has to have a history of infractions before they take any meaningful action. WHY? Is that guy’s head any less caved in because Rust has never done that before?

Detroit signed dman Ben Chiarot to a 3 year/$3.85 million AAV extension. That’s $900k lower than his current deal.

And yet he’s still over paid. At least he’s good at the one thing he can do … unlike Soucy.

Somebody want to explain why the Isles are bailing out the Devils here? Palat is barely above replacement now and is only going to get more immobile as he plays next season at 35 years old and you pay him SIX MILLION DOLLARS.
They picked up 2 picks and he’s an easy buyout candidate after the season, this was the last year he got a signing bonus.

Yeah, didn’t see the reporting on the cash cost of his deal until this morning. That makes more sense. Still, the 3rd rounder is the only one with real value and you’re tying up a buyout slot and a goodly chunk of change.

Of course Ondrej Palat had a goal, an assist, and was the first star of the game in the Isles win over the Rangers tonight!
