Thanks for sharing that article, I listened often to Boomer but had no idea he was that sick. The piece Mick Kern wrote about Boomer was great, an excellent yet sad article on his friend and colleague.
 
Boomer was the guy I loved listening to on NHL. He never got in the way of discussing hockey like some other folks— he was such a fan of the game!
When he’d talk about his health and cancer, he was matter of fact about it. He’s a guy I will miss. So sad and cancer really F’ing sucks!

Boomer was the best! My favorite show on the channel (even better when it was him and Joe Thistel, but still great).

My wife even knew and liked Boomer & his show, and she really only tolerates me listening for hours on end to NHL Radio (since way back at the "Home Ice" beginnings)... "he doesn't yell and scream like the other ones" :D

RIP Boomer.

By all accounts out of Toronto this morning he is indeed a dead man walking...but the GM should be too...if Toronto let's that idiot Treliving handle this trade deadline based on his past history they are dumber than dumb. Some calling it a fire sale in Toronto now, I would call it more of a junk sale.
 
Yeah, never been a fan of Treliving. Hiring that caveman to follow Dubas and not planning for a roster tear down was bonkers. Then again, their off season in 2025 set this up pretty much perfectly. Losing Marner and replacing his slice of the cap with spare parts was either an act of self-sabotage or an attempt to stage manage the kind of car crash that they’ve finally achieved.
 
There are pieces the Leafs could trade, but anyone giving them a 1st round pick for Bobby McMann is going to be sorely disappointed in what they actually get. Most of the rest of what the Leafs might be willing to trade is junk.

The trades the Leafs made last year for Carlo and Laughton were really really dumb.
 
The leafs need to change the core substantially if they want to win. Think about this.

Instead of Matthews if they had Sid does anyone think they would have no cups? Heck, slide Kucherov in instead on one of their top 3 and try to imagine them being cupless.

They have tremendously talented players but not those guys who have that ability to perform when it’s now or never time.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I haven't been listening in a while, but I always enjoyed Boomer's thoughts and opinions. I had no idea he had cancer.

They had off ramps with both Marner and Nylander where they could have gotten substantial returns, but … nope. They could have walked away from Tavares last summer and at least shifted some of the Top 6 focus, and yet, no. Nobody had a gun to their head when they extended Reilly either. They chose (kind of) to cut bait on Freddie and Marner, but let them walk at the end of their deals so they got nothing for their trouble. Then they spent the last two years getting bigger and tougher in their bottom layers, which was never really their problem. At this stage, they have an expensive, deeply flawed core and limited flexibility thanks to a raft of bad contracts. The only guys they can trade without restrictions are guys they either don’t want to move or guys nobody else wants. They really don’t get much natural Cap flexibility until two years from now, but finding a way to get from now to then while staying somewhat competitive is gonna be tough. Their GM is a caveman and their fanbase is DEEPLY out of patience. Have fun.
 
Dallas filed paperwork with the league and NHLPA today to convert Tyler Seguin to full season LTIR.
 
The likes of Treliving and Berube were never destined to give TO what they wanted. Their core never had a character guy to carry the team— Nylander, Marner, Matthews— and there weren’t enough hard nose qualities in those 3 guys to play Berube’s game. Those guys will help a team, but they’re not the team.

Don't forget that they seem to relish spending draft picks on curious deals. (We don't need no stinking future) The Leafs truly need a GM and coach who are both on the same page, with a common goal (other than to just save their own scalps) with each one pulling the rope the same direction, instead of wildly rolling the dice & hoping for double 6s on every roll. I can't imagine how pissed off I'd be if I was a Leafs fan & got shat on as often as they are by a supposed brain trust who claim to know what they're doing, yet prove over & over that they don't. Compound that circus with fishbowl media coverage that try to one up the next writer & manufacture B.S. just to draw subscribers in or get an angle on a story that nobody else has yet. Those players don't need that shit, they just need to play for each other. Toronto would have a much better team if 7/8ths of the chiefs got out of the way and let competent leadership and experience handle the job. I love how dedicated the Leaf fans are, but they get force-fed a lot of unnecessary garbage.
