2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Dreger says the Sabres/Blues discussions on Thomas have reached a stalemate. Supposedly the ask was Owen Power, 2024 1st rounder Konsta Helenius, who has spent most of the last 2 seasons in the AHL but is almost a point per game player this year, winger Jack Quinn and a possibly a 1st

No way the ask was 4 high quality assets. That sounds suspiciously like Buffalo’s camp leaking some BS to cover for yet another guy saying no to moving to Buffalo

Meanwhile Florida losing again tonight…this is getting good!!!
Florida has sunk to 10 points out of the last WC slot, with 5 teams between them and a playoff berth. I’m not going to say it’s impossible, but it’s REALLY unlikely.

And BTW, do you think all the idiots in hockey media who have criminally under-rated Sasha Barkov all these years will notice what his absence did to that absolute wagon of a team? Nah, prolly not.

Yeah I can’t rule them out yet, but another 4-5 losses here soon and that may do it.

So they will need to go at least 16-5 to get to 95 points. Boston needs to be .500.

The bigger issue is how meany teams are between Florida and Boston. You’ve got to climb over all that junk first. Given that they never have a 1st round pick, the Panthers would be wise to dump any pending UFAs they’ve got for whatever they can get. If freaking Mike McCarron is bringing in a 2nd rounder, I’m sure you can get that or better for AJ Greer now that he comes equipped with a shiny new Cup ring. Plus, if they’re not going to re-sign Goalie Bob you might even retain to get him moved if you can get a 1st rounder and some youth.

It was rumored that Parayko and Thomas would be part of a big package to Buffalo.

I saw that … and I assume that’s what the 4 quality assets from the Sabres deal was for. Not just Thomas, but Thomas and Parayko. That makes more sense. No guarantee that Parayko waives his no trade, of course. He’s a western Canadian guy so maybe there’s a bit less of a stigma playing in Buffalo than for Thomas, who is an Ontario boy.

Calgary sends dman Mackenzie Weegar to Utah for Olli Maata, Jonathan Castagna and 3 2026 2nd rounders. Castagna is a center, a junior at Cornell, drafted 70th overall in 2023.
