I take underwater pictures when I scuba dive. Probably ought to move this to the Grab Bag thread. I'm restarting it there. We don't need to draw penalties by talking fishing in a hockey thread.
 
OK … at this point let’s take the off season recreational activity chatter to the Grab Bag thread. Having been guilty of same, I’ll try to do better myself. Let’s keep this thread clean for Hurricanes’ team-related off season stuff.

Elliott Friedman claims the Canes were involved in negotiating an offer sheet with Pavel Mintyukov prior to the Ducks getting him signed.

Yeah, I’m seeing the Canes involved with enough defensemen to have become convinced that if/when they do trade Nikishin, it’ll be D for D.

I’ve heard reporting that at least three and as many as five teams were negotiating offer sheets with Mintyukov’s camp.

Have to agree on that Jim, and oh boy some of the hockey media will have a field day on that one. I get the fact you’re the owner and you get to make the call but part of me just says sometimes common sense prevails…Nystrom has to find a way on there if your wife and kids make it on…
 
The hate has already started about the entire Dundon clan being on the Cup.

The Viola's have 5 names on the Cup, Vincent, his wife, and 3 kids. I don't remember hearing a peep about the entire Viola clan putting their names on the Cup from ANYONE EVER. But since Dundon has 5 kids, and because he is Tom Dundon, here come all of the haters. Technically all 3 of the Viola kids and their Mom are 'Alternate Governors' for the Florida Panthers. I assume all of them are adults.

There are TEN Ilitchs listed on the Cup for the Red Wings last championship (2008). Anyone remember the uproar about that?

And most importantly, does anyone really know that Dundon's youngest son didn't have any involvement with the Canes? He might have slipped Seth Jarvis a box of Nerds before a game.

I think the problem is not just that he has 7 family members on there... it's that combined with a player being left off for coming up a couple games short.
 
Do we know that Joel Nystrom isn't on the Cup because Dundon's kids are? I would be upset about that. I do agree that Nystrom should have his name on the Cup.

My only beef would be Nystrom helped out that Canes team a fair amount in the Fall when over half of that starting six D core was wounded and out…there were many games where Nystrom actually contributed quite a bit even as a raw rookie with zero NHL experience. From where I sit with my naked eye that’s even more deserving than Deslauriers…or Dundon’s 10 year old…🤷🏼‍♂️
 
Why was Peter Pocklington’s father’s name removed from the Cup? The NHL said the dad had no affiliation with the team. Has something changed??

There is room for 55 names. The Canes have 53. I think they left Nystrom off because, prior to the season ending recalls to give players rest, he hadn’t played since the end of January.

They also left off Bob Gorman and Mike Sundheim, both of whom are on the Cup from 2006.
