Marner wanted out, and instead of asking for a trade and facilitating, he pouted and ran out the clock. Very similar to what happens if Ottawa insists on playing hardball with Brady/Florida.

You guys are oblivious. This was the one and only way to deal with the situation and it would’ve yielded exactly the level of return needed before draft day.

Yeah, they can wait to sign him. That’s two years from now. Matthew is going to be strangling Zito between then and draft day to get it done.
 
If anything Florida can lowball the fuck out of the sens and simply wait out the situation.

I think Ottawa did fantastic, relatively speaking. The challenge is going to be flipping some of that stuff for a suitable replacement.

It’s not a very competitive package. It’s dropping your best player and captain into the lap of a division rival who you’re trying to stay ahead of without taking one guy off their roster.

Like I said, if it didn’t get exactly what you wanted, it would’ve gotten you an improvement. If Lundell instead of the last pick, and taking off protection on that later 1st, is all you’re asking for, you better be sure Matthew and Florida aren’t saying no on draft day.

What is with the ongoing fascination with Lundell? Stop listening to people like Hayes. The difference between this being a good trade and not isn't a guy who would be Ottawa's 4th best centre (Stutzle, Cozens, and Pinto are all better).

They can make a really good pick at 9 and package up 25 and 32 for a solid roster player.

I don’t care about Lundell. I’m saying if that’s what they wanted, they should’ve been able to get that instead of those picks a few years from now. The package they got was Florida basically saying you’re gonna take this and like it because I told you to. They didn’t have that kind of power here with two years left on that deal.
 
Lundell plays with bite so he is vastly overrated by people like Hayes. I agree with him in the sense that they should have got a roster player back in that deal IN ADDITION to all the picks. But that dude ain't even the #5 most important player on the team
 
They had to get rid of him ASAP. Who wants some MAGA asshole whining about bilingual signage and ketchup chips during camp… and more importantly they got picks hoping to turn ‘em into plug and play players. Can’t do that after the draft or even a few days before

Which MAGA asshole or his brother wants his trade demand to become public and have the team he’s captaining turn on him and become persona non grata in Canada while playing for a Canadian team?

I agree that they had until the draft to get this done properly. That’s my point. Ottawa had another week. In that week, I would’ve turned the temperature all the way up to make it impossible for Brady to return even if he wanted to, and to have Matthew push the shit out of Zito to just cave on anything reasonable to bring his shitty little brother over there.
