With everyone locked in - actually not the end of the world to pay a true #1 C that money. Probably the last piece to be a top 3-5 contender for the next 5-10 years (assuming your goalie is legit - forget his name)

imo it's just that with the rising cap a bunch of players are finally taking a stand for their actual value instead of accepting the bizarrely depressed elite salaries of the last decade.

That’s the vibe I get too. Fatal mistake by Nill to not just pay him whatever he was asking for last summer.
 
Yeah, as long as it's an 8 yr deal for someone like Robertson, pay the 15+ if you have to. By half way through the deal the cap will be somewhere in the 140 million dollar range.

Who are you talking about? Cause it seems like you're referring to Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars, who has never played center in the NHL.

The one smart thing Bundy did that’ll pay dividends for us for years to come was to just suck it up and pay Willy what it took to get him to sign for eight years, even if it seemed like an overpayment at the time.

Though being Bundy, he still fucked it up a little by deciding to “wait and see” and then signing him in the middle of a massive hot streak for probably $1-1.5M more per season than he would’ve had to pay him in the summer. Still glad he got it done in the end though.

Hughes already said that these guys didn't sign team friendly deals just to give all that money to someone else and say "thanks Ivan."

Robertson is really good, but I'll take Slaf for $9m less.
