Coach Kirk gone

I can see Ward really getting back to form on a new team,he's that fierce of a competitor,if we do cut him loose the payback must include things we need-and nastiness and size is at the top of the list for me.

I've heard the same thing about CWard's lack of effort to conditioning. His best year was when he stayed in town to rehab. He worked with Friesen (contrary to BK's recommendations!) and also did hot yoga-- weight loss, core, strength and flexibility. That's the last I ever heard of Ward's off season. I've heard more about Ward's "Cane Estate" wines than his commitment to rehab and conditioning.

ETA: I have never been clear if Ward's injuries are due to lack of conditioning or he can't fully train due to injuries. I suspect if he were in better shape, his injuries would not be as frequent or as long.

Twind was the nutritionist that worked with both cward and his wife that summer.

Glad to see Muller getting a gig under Hitchcock. Good learning/coaching experience for him. Certainly in some ways, 180 degrees from this "player's coach" tendencies.

Good for Muller...first class guy all the way. Nothing bad to say about anyone, he will be a better head coach next time around!

Their power play was 8th in the league last season. He might actually learn a few more wrinkles from those guys.

Working under Hitch us bound to be a good experience and resume builder. Besides, he will get to coach players who don't appear to have issues with motivation or desire.

It seems likely that the delay in naming a new coach is directly related to the playoffs still going on. Lots of rumors about who will be fired if they don't win it all and I'd imagine every team lookingm is curious to see exactly who becomes available. (Samuelson, Bylsma, etc)

How interesting would it be to see Torts in Pittsburgh? You think Sid would mouth off in the middle of the game and get away with it?

Or they could elevate one of the assistants and we could see the return of everyone's favorite bridge troll, Jack Martin...

yea, that made me cringe. Bylsma looked totally deflated by that. Can't imagine any of the old schoolers would have taken too well to that mouth of his. Torts, Hitch, Laviolette, etc would have probably crawled up into his ear.

I think Bylsma would bring enough respect with him to make a big impact on Carolina if that's even remotely an option. His systems are solid as all get out and he's a terrific communicator. I'd love to see that guy land here. Again ... if it even becomes as option. Surely somebody else would be interested as well.

Bylsma has the type of likeable personality that would fit here better than some of the hard asses like Torts or Trotz. Just judging by what this org has liked in the past, Bylsma would be an instant candidate to interview here if he is fired this week.

The Ulffie advancement in the playoffs last night delays that for at least another two weeks.

Blysma will be a very good coach again in the NHL...he is a bright likable guy with a good hockey mind. That said he would not be a good fit for the Canes now. He needs a year off to reflect on what didn't work in Pittsburgh so he can correct in the future. He also is a "players" coach so probably also not what the Canes need right now.

I dunno ... he's not the sort of players coach that all's buddy buddy with everybody. From what I understand before he lost Crosby's attention recently, he's just a solid coach who communicates in a very clear and thorough manner. Players love guys who let them know where they stand and give solid feedback. If nothing else, Eric Staal knows that Jordan loved the guy, so that would be a good place to start here.
