So who exactly is involved in the new GM hunt? Is Tom Dundon just going to ask for resumes and do interviews and pick a guy? What hockey expert is going to be helping Dundon with this? Is Karmanos going to be involved? Waddell? FmrGMRF? Any of the pile of assistant GMs we employ?
I almost sense that there is already a plan here and the new GM(and his coach) are just waiting to be officially made available. Who exactly has Dundon's ear as a hockey expert at the moment if RF doesn't?
Those are fair questions CMal, the vibe being sent from the so called inner circle media types like Friedman, LeBrun and others is that this Francis vs Dundon battle has been boiling over for at least 5 days prior to it being announced last night with some reporting that Francis almost resigned this past weekend. If that timeline is correct, you would wager a pretty good bet that the inner circle of the NHL was already letting potential GM's in waiting to give Dundon a ring directly for an interview ASAP. Hard to believe that Francis would be a part of the hiring of his successor if the media stories being reported are true. Waddell also seems like a dead man walking with this team, so I guess that would leave Dundon and ???
Don Maloney as GM and Dave Tippett as coach would be reuniting the old Arizona Coyote connection...does that make too much sense as a tandem deal? Maloney won GM of the Year in 2010 and his biggest move that season was hiring Dave Tippett as coach!
"Maloney, in his third season as General Manager of the Coyotes, steered the club through an uncertain and turbulent off-season, charting the course for the most successful regular season in franchise history. His biggest move was hiring head coach Dave Tippett, who guided the Coyotes to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2002 by posting a 50-25-7 record for 107 points and setting franchise records for wins, points and home wins (29) in a season."
