Free Agent Frenzy

I’m not sure where this is coming from but it’s getting old … at least for me. Toronto’s just another team on this board, regardless of what you’re seeing somewhere else. If you have some beef with Toronto fans, we’re not them
You're a grumpy one today!
I'll continue to poke fun at the Toronto media and fanbase as long as I want. I don't need your permission. Feel free to block me if it bothers you that much!

Do whatever you want, but nobody here is in the Toronto media or is a Toronto fan so I’m gonna get grumpy from time to time if you keep it this aggressive. Mostly because it doesn’t have sweet FA to do with anybody on this board but also because it’s just annoying. You “have the right” to say what you want within the guidelines. Just like I have the right to say what I want. And what I want to say is that your schtick is annoying. If that makes me grumpy, tough shit.

Given the moves made so far today, I don't think any of those really impact any of the 'balls' the Canes might have in the air.

Darnell Nurse traded to San Jose (waiting on details).

Yeah, Carlson is waiting it out for whatever reason. I mean, at this point I’d assume he prefers Carolina but is going to get paid either way so he’s OK waiting.

And I liked what San Jose had been doing and then they up and get Trouba and Nurse.

The Leaf fans on FI are pretty miserable about today fwiw.
You definitely knew the Leafs would shake things up given how last season went. There are multiple ways this could all end up:

* Bob could return to form and lead the Leafs to the playoffs. OR Bob's 2025-26 season was the beginning of the end and the Leafs are left holding an expensive bag.

* Raddysh looks every bit as good as he did last season with Tampa and helps solidify a Leafs D while providing a legit high end PP1 point shot OR Raddysh turns into a pumpkin and regresses back to a 30 point middle pair Dman (and the Leafs are again holding the bag ALTHOUGH you could argue that 30 point 2nd pair dman is still worth the $8.5 million AAV, but the Leafs need him to be better than that).

Hard to say what will happen, but the Leafs had to shoot some shots. As for some of the other signings they made:

Colton Sissons 2 x $4.25 million AAV. That is a heck of a pricy 4th line center. He is good at faceoffs but sheesh, that is a lot of scratch for a 4th line center (way too much). Canes have Mark Jankowski at 2 x $1.85 million AAV. I would rather have Jankowski

Jack Roslovic 2 x $4 million AAV. I mean, regular season 20 goal scorer, that is the good. 3 goals in 51 playoffs games (yes that is really true). So yeah...but one of Auston's buddies so, sure.

Blueger and Duhaime....more bottom 6 wingers. They are both good at that role though and the money was small.

And apparently the Leafs just traded Hildeby to Tampa for Nick Paul. We will see if Paul can get his offense back after last season's disaster.

I whole new Leafs team...will be interesting.

Washington just sunk $5.7 mil AAV into the Boone Jenner farm for 4 years. Yeah. I guess they needed to replace Nic Dowd with someone bigger, slower and more expensive. Oh, and more injury prone.

Had a lotta cap space and got a ton of junk, that’s all. Bob seems like a big risk.

Well, one trend today is either driven by Carolina’s Cup win or just reality of the free agent pool … but everybody seems to be trying to get better in their bottom six. They’re all spending WAY too much money doing it, but such is July 1

Tampa just traded Nick Paul to Kahunas favorite team so maybe freeing up more space for Carlson!!! 🇨🇦
On that front, Tampa now has what would pass as an NHL roster and $10.8 million in Cap space. Yeah, they’re going to make another run at Carlson, I bet. Apparently they have some other guys they like in the PP QB role, but he’s the top of the available pile by a significant margin.

Tampa could use Carlson more than the Canes, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him eventually end up in Tampa later today or tomorrow. The beauty of winning a Cup and having a full roster in place is the Canes really don’t have to do a damn thing today and that’s relaxing in itself!
