General Leafs News & Notes

Interesting. I wonder who else is on their hit list? Since playing McLaren and Orr at the same time seems to have become a thing of the past this year, maybe they'll show one of those guys the door. He could also be talking about internal moves, like sending down Holland. Once Trevor Smith's healthy, they'll also have to either send him, Carter Ashton or Troy Bodie down.

Loiselle explained they can always sign Hartikainen and if he doesn't make the Leafs they can loan him back to the KHL.

I hope that Clarkson can have a good playoffs and reboot his career here. We're going to need him to anyways, so he better find the gear that works and grind it right down.
I'd like to think that a strong playoffs will get the type of fans that boo him to lay off when he isn't lighting up the scoreboard, because he's never going to.

Fraser.
Felt bad for a guy who takes a puck off the head and loses his job, hopefully he's a fit in Edmonton. As long as he sits back and doesn't try to help on offence he should be very useful to that group.

I would like to see Holland stay with the team, so I'm hoping the deals to free up space make that work for us.

Glad we got Fraser off the roster and saved a little money.

Its funny listening to the guys at noon and Fraser himself using his performance last year to say he established himself as a regular.

Mark Fraser is the gritty, stay-at-home defenceman this team has been lacking since I accidentally traded Ladislav Smid..

As much as people griped at the beginning of the year... for the most part it has a) been a meritocracy on D this season; and b) we haven't been afraid to play our youngsters in favour of 'wily old vets'.

Rielly and Gards have played the majority of games this season. Tough to argue they haven't gotten a fair shake, or typical Leafs are preventing their young talent from developing in favour of old vets.

Well, Randy still favored guys for style over substance. His default choices were still the wrong ones in the borderline battles - it just happened that the guys he picked were SO bad that he had no choice but to try something else.

But his default switch was still to play the Frasers and McClements lots of minutes.

What exactly are you hoping to get from him in the playoffs though? If it's increased offensive production, you're going to be disappointed. His best ever playoffs was during New Jersey's run to the finals a couple of years ago. That was also the year that he scored 30 goals and 46 points in the regular season, and this is how he did in the playoffs:

GP 24, G 3, A 9, Pts 12 (GP 82, G 10, A 31, Pts 41)

So, his goal production dropped off by two-thirds from his regular season production, and his total points pace dropped off slightly. Now, here's the rest of his career playoff production, gleaned from four trips to the playoffs with the Devils between 2007-2010:

GP 20, G 2, A 0, Pts 2 (GP 82, G 8, A 0, Pts 8)

Yuck.

Loiselle on Hartikainen: "He wants to play in the NHL. He's probably a 3rd-line player."; has out clause in KHL deal

At least it is some insurance with all the free agents.

I don't think he is very good though. All reports are that he can't skate. He's a big body though. Maybe more of a 4th liner.

I was going to laugh at Loiselle's claim but Harty actually has good enough AHL numbers that 3rd line upside isn't crazytalk.

13 points in 52 games over 3 seasons with Edmonton.

He was roughly a 45 point player in the AHL if you pace him out over 82 games. He has 27 points in 43 games with Ufa Salavat in the KHL.
