Habs sign Jakub Jerabek to one-year deal

Re: Post-Season Thread

If we sign him on May 1. I'm guessing he will not need to be protected as he will be on a ELC

he is less than 2 years of service time according to expansion rules. They aren't counting Czech league and KHL.

Re: Post-Season Thread

So is this guy an everyday 3rd pairing guy (Beaulieu replacement) or a Nesterov replacement?

probably Nesterov to start, with the chance he could be more.

He was good in the KHL. Does that translate? Hard to say.

If a guy is outstanding in the KHL, you've got a pretty good idea he's going to be a regular.
But this guy was good in the KHL, he wasn't outstanding. Is that going to translate to a regular, or to a #7, or to what? Don't know til he gets here.

If we want to compare him to a guy who came over last year, he wasn't as good as Zaitsev.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

Behold, another defenceman. Bergevin sure loves them.

hopefully it means we are packaging a few for some offence (not holding my breath)

Nesterov is RFA and likely doesn't return.

I don't expect Beaulieu back.

I hope Emelin is moved.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

Yeah we do have some holes on D and if this guy can fill one then great. I don't expect great things from him. But if he can be a solid partner for Benn on the third pairing and on the second PP. sounds like he has playmaking ability.

he is only 5'10 now (cue the Torry Krug Dan Boyle etc retorts).

Typical for Bergevin though, we lose a series due to an inability to score so the first guy he signs is a dman

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

what's not to like? He's a lotto ticket that didn't cost us a draft choice. Keep adding; one will payoff bigly.

Yup, doesn't cost a draft choice.

Also, will be on an ELC contract meaning less than a million bucks.

This is no risk.

Queue count bringing up Drewiskie soon.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

Bobby Mac wrote this back in February. It's good to know we beat out other teams based on destination alone. (money would be the same everywhere)

Meanwhile, another free-agent defenceman attracting NHL interest is 25-year-old Czech Jakub Jerabek, who plays for Chekhov Vityaz in the KHL. Jerabek is free to come to the NHL once his KHL season is over.
The sub 6-footer (5-foot-10, 182 pounds) is a good skating and skilled offensive-minded blueliner. Multiple NHL teams have expressed interest in signing him.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

Left defence is also an area that has been an organizational concern for some time, so adding a guy in a position of need was smart.

Now on to May 1st and let the Shipachyov sweepstakes begin.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

cool, another potential #6 or #7 dman! We have like 8 of them by now.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

It's a risk worth taking. It's less than a 1M and can be sent to AHL at any time I believe cause it is an ELC??? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

27, SFB, and a 1st to Colorado?

If Nathan MacKinnon is coming back sure. But pending FA (and regressing) Duchene better not be the centre-piece in a trade that big. Colorado sucks for a reason, and I think MD and his contract is a big part of that.
